I love having little sachets and other sewn things on had for tucking in gifts or sending to friends out of the blue. It’s so nice to not have to whip something up at the last minute and little gifts like these sweet fabric and felt lavender sachets go together so quickly that you can sew up a bunch in no time!
They are perfect for holidays, or just to have on hand any time you need a little something to brighten someone’s day!
The lavender in these is so nice and fresh, they work great for adding to linen cabinets or dressers. If you don’t like lavender it’s super easy to change up the scent – just add dried rose petals or even some loose leaf tea in a fragrance you like. You could also add a little ribbon loop at the top if you’d like to hang them in a closet or on a pretty fabric-covered hanger.
Sweet Fabric and Felt Lavender Sachets
Materials: (Per Sachet) (Contains Affiliate links)
- 11″ x 5 1/2″ piece of fabric
- 4″ piece of wool or wool blend felt
- DMC Embroidery Floss to coordinate with fabric
- 1 Tbsp Dried Lavender
- Pinking Shears, Embroidery Needle
Cut your fabric into two 5 1/2″ squares. Cut a heart out of your 4″ piece of felt. Cut around your heart with pinking shears. This adds a cute edging but if you don’t have pinking shears, feel free to leave the edges straight.
Center your heart on the right side of one of the fabric squares. Sew the heart to the fabric by stitching around the heart, 1/4″ from the edge of the heart.
Cut a length of embroidery floss. I used DMC pearl cotton but you can use regular floss too. Sew a running stitch over your machine stitching on the heart. A running stitch is super easy, just bring the needle in and out of the fabric, keeping the stitches the same length.
Now you have a pretty stitched heart!
Place your fabric squares right sides together. Sew around the four sides, leaving an opening in the bottom about 2″ wide. Trim off each corner of the square.
Turn the fabric right side out and press. If you are using wool felt, you can press the felt. If you are using regular polyester felt, place a cloth over the heart so it won’t get singed. Polyester and irons don’t play nice together.
Begin stuffing your heart. Add enough to reach the halfway point in the sachet. Spoon in 1 Tbsp of lavender.
Finish stuffing the heart. You want it lightly stuffed, not completely full. Sew the opening of sachet closed by hand.
Place a button in the center of the heart and sew the button in place. Keep your stitches on the back of the heart in the very center so they make a tufted look – this will keep the back looking nice too!
That’s it – now you can go crazy and make lots more! These look so cute with little vintage buttons or colorful buttons that coordinate with your fabrics!
I hope you have a lot of fun with these Sweet Fabric and Felt Lavender Sachets!
Lovely to keep in your knitting bag!

sweet and I’d love to know where you got that fabric…
Hi! The fabric is Flower Sugar by Lecien. You can find it in most online shops. Hope that helps! :)
These are delightful little gifts and I will be making some soon. Thanks so much.
What beautiful little gifts! I love sachets; there’s nothing better than opening a drawer and being hit with a pleasant smell. Thanks for sharing this idea! :) If I can hand-stitch the hearts without them being crooked or having ugly stitches, I’ll be in business! Lol!

Bev these are the sweetest sachets that you have made, and I love lavender.
Such a cute project to share with daughters for their drawers.
Thank you for sharing on the #OMHGWW this week!!
What a great idea to embroider over the machine stitching! I’m always looking for project my 10 year old can do that are real and this looks great. We’ve been doing hand warmers, but I forgot about sachets. And I love the simple addition of the little heart and the built in guide of the machine stitching to help her stay straight! Thanks for sharing!

I love lavender! These would make such adorable gifts :)
These are adorable. I love them. Congrats, you are being featured on Thursday Favorite Things. https://eclecticredbarn.blogspot.com/2019/05/thursday-favorite-things_16.html
I’ve been checking out the Pocket Quilt Squares, but my arthritic finger won’t do “small” any more. I thought these would be great…especially with the Lavender smell to relax them. I live in an Assisted Living Home & thought I would make one & show it to our Activities Directors to make for any one that gets sick, or is dealing with health problems. I can imagine their face when they smell the Lavender which is sure to relax them. I think I’ll try the square with a heart center.
