So as I explained last year – I don’t really do the resolution thing.
I think they’re awesome. But they stress me out.
So instead I make goals. Things I’d like to accomplish in the year.
(These are bloggy/sewing/career related. Cause yeah, I still need to work on cleaning my house better and losing more weight and actually exercising. some. day. But those are different posts.)
But I’m sitting here not-so-thrilled with myself after reading through last year’s Stuff I’d like To Do post.
Ahem.
I didn’t do so good.
This guy?
We did not become besties.
I think I need to get over the fact that this thing is a hassle to get out of the box every time I want to use it and start setting it up more.
I need to MAKE all those cute dresses I’ve pinned instead of lurking around ModCloth waiting for things to go on clearance.
My List of Pinterest things to make?
Meh.
I made one and a half.
I do feel like I’ve done well making the blog a happy place.
I love posting here. I love you visiting here.
This blog is the most satisfying thing I’ve done outside of my family in my life.
But my big “DREAM” thing from last year? Keeping it real here friends . . . .
It did not happen.
I did not submit a book proposal.
Not to one publisher.
And you know why?
I didn’t make it a priority.
I let my fear get the best of me.
I didn’t want it bad enough.
Despite all my blathering last year about overcoming fear and feeling like it’s better to try and fail then to not try . . . I did not try.
How embarassing is that to admit.
This year is going to be different. I can feel it already.
I’ve got plans and dreams and ideas for this year and I’ve already dived in.
No putting things off and saying I will do it “tomorrow”.
BIG Projects around the house are getting done.
Patterns are in the works.
This year I am going to submit that proposal.
I am tired of wishing I was accomplishing more – and watching others acheive their goals while I stay in the same place.
I am not going to let my fear stop me.
I found a quote that I love – and I think it will help me remember my goals this year.
It’s by Eleanor Roosevelt.
This is my goal this year.
Ok – maybe not something scary every day.
That could get a little crazy. I’d like to still have all my hair by the end of 2013.
But I am definitely going to get myself in gear this year and go for some big dreams!
On the off-chance that maybe you’ve felt the same way – or maybe you just like to bungee jump or watch a lot of Freddie Krueger movies – I’ve made this into a printable for you to download.
It’s sized at 8 1/2 x 11 so you can easily trim it down to an 8 x 10 and pop it into a frame.
Click here to Download the printable.
This will open the file as a PDF in another window. You can then save it to your computer and print it out.
Please keep in mind that all Flamingo Toes printables are for personal use only. Do not transfer or sell the printable.
Also, printables are free for Flamingo Toes followers, so please choose to follow along before downloading anything. Thanks!
If you’ve made it all they way through this – you get a gold star. And thanks for sticking around while I ramble. :)
Oh – and I almost forgot one from last year – the “get-more-pretty-shoes” goal.
Yeah. I’ve done pretty spectacularly in that department. ;)
So what do you think? Do you make resolutions or goals?
And what do you do when you don’t accomplish them? I’d love to hear any tips you have to stay motivated!!
What a great post! I love that saying and wishing you a “scary” HAH 2013.
Bev
I love the honesty, Bev! I was looking over my goals post from last year and getting seriously mopey about it.
I know you can reach your goals! Whatever that machine is in your post… it looks scary! But I’m a novice and you so are not. :)
I’m definitely downloading your printable and posting it on my desk! A scary things per week (or month!) would do me some good, too.
Bev – At least you have goals. I haven’t even gotten there yet. Go for it all!!
Judy
Go for it, Bev! It would be beyond AMAZING to hold your book(s) in my hands and learn more crafty goodness from you :) Oh, and I’m stealing your“get-more-pretty-shoes” goal, thank you!
Oh Beverly! I am so with you on this. I do not make resolutions, but am a goal setter as well. My word for the year is embraced. So far I have done several things that have taken me out of my confort zone and (so far) every one has paid off! I love the quote too and am going to print it out! I wish you the best in 2013!
Truly a great start for your year!
I love that quote by Eleanor Roosevelt. Very motivational and I too would do well to follow it’s advise. You did a great job on the print too, I had to pin it. :)
I do something scary ever day. If you could see the sink at the end of the day… =) Get to know your serger! You’ll love it!
I haven’t been very good at resolutions or goals lately so I’m afraid I can’t help there. But I think you did a great job of keeping your blog a happy place. I’m glad you haven’t given up on your book – it will be awesome!
I have to say, I’ve been “following” for longer than just this year…and if this has been you “not” making your goals then I can’t wait to see what you accomplish this year!!
You provide constant inspiration (and maybe a teensy bit of jealousy!)
Happy New Year!
I just started following you at the end of last year, and I have to say, I really enjoy your blog. I have the same fear issues as well – maybe I would do better in making goals to strive for. And that sewing machine, I had to laugh because I had the same issue LOL! I will get it back out this year and use it! For now, I will be downloading your print and use it for those times when my fears get the best of me. Happy New Year Bev :)
Hmmm… Sort of feeling the same way except…Clean the house – always on my list, found flylady.net this year, and she has helped!; Losa Weight – got a start with 15 lbs using WW online, plenty more to lose; exercise – started that one a couple of years ago and it changed everything….I am slowly working away on other things, now stop reading comments and go work on your book. Do one hour a day, even if it is in 15 min increments. I’ll buy a copy :)
Geeezzz, you said alot of things that sounded like moi! Years ago I got a book called Wishcraft, that explained that one of the big reasons we do not reach our goals, is that we do not have the insider knowledge necessary to do it. (Another way to put it is, if my Dad was a successful factory worker, I would pick up lots of unverbalized cues about how to be a good factory worker, and would reach that goal….but if I wanted to be a lawyer instead, and did not know any successful lawyers, I would need to cultivate several lawyers who could mentor me…) The GOOD news is that right here in the present, there are many quilting bloggers who are succeeding in the way you – and I! – want to, and most of them are pretty darned forthcoming at helping others do the same! So — you are in luck, and I am in luck, and “I’ll see ya in print, Baby!” This is the year — you can DO it! Oh, and thanks so much for the printable! It is one of my favorite quotes!
Great post! I’m so glad you are getting ahead of the game and tackling projects now. I love your goal of shoes and that you accomplished it! If I could only accomplish one thing, that would be the one of I could easily do :)
Love that quote, and you did a great job on the printable. my new year’s resolution is to WIN every day. That means that at the end of each day, I don’t want to look back and have any regrets. For the past 10 days, it’s been awesome. It keeps me looking at short-term goals that will help me get to long-term goals. Also, I figure that if I don’t have a good day where I win the day, I won’t be inclined to throw in the towel. The loss will just be confined to that day, and I’ll get back on the horse the next day and continue to move forward toward my long-term goals.
Thanks for your honesty and for the great printable!
Cheers!
Nif
Go for it!! You are so talented…I know your book would be a hit. :)
Hi Bev, Thanks for sharing. That is an awesome thing to do and I think I just may try it! But just like you I’m not sure if I could do 1 everyday, but I’d like to try! Thanks. Found you from a Linky party!
Bev, love this post…The quote is one of my favorite. It was so wonderful to spend some time with you this weekend. xoxo. T.
That’s a great goal Bev. You have the talent for sure to make it happen. Don’t let that darn fear have your “ear”… as Nike would say… just do it!
