Ok. I ADORE decorating for Halloween. Love. Love. Love.
And I love that Gothic, Victorian look – it’s so spooky and awesome.
I’m also kind of fickle, so while I love that gothic look, I have to make new stuff every year.
So I’m excited to show off my new Spooky Halloween “Family” Photos Frame!
I wanted to do a fun Halloween photo frame, but with a twist. So this one is all decorated up with some fabulous old Halloween photos – which are really weird. And awesome.
It’s super inexpensive to put together – and easy too!
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own spooky little photo frame:
- FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam – Rectangle piece 15/16 x 11 15/16 x 17 15/16 in.
- Burlap Garland
- Black Fabric
- 3 small scrolly frames
- Spray paint or craft paint for frames
- black satin ribbon
- striped ribbon
- spooky photos
- hot glue
- 2 wee crows
We’re going to start by making our super easy and light frame out of Styrofoam. Begin by tracing a line 1 1/2″ from the edges of the Rectangle Foam piece.
Use a Styrofoam cutter or other knife to cut out the center rectangle piece.
This should leave you with a rectangle frame.
Tear 2″ strips of your black fabric and wrap them around the frame, hot gluing the edges and ends down as you need to.
Pretend there is a picture here of the frame all wrapped up. Pretend I didn’t forget to take a picture here ok? :)
I promise I made one. You’ll see.
So. Now that your frame is all wrapped, let’s work on the bow. Cut your Burlap Garland into two strips, one 15″ long and one 20″ long. Cut a length of 5″ satin ribbon about 30″ long.
Trim the 15″ ribbon so that there are little triangles cut into the ends. Fold the 20″ piece so the ends overlap. Fold the satin ribbon so that it makes two folds on each side.
Stack the bow pieces together and sew a gathering stitch up the middle. (you can glue this too if you’d rather).
Cut a 6″ piece of burlap garland and fold the long sides in, then wrap around the center of the bow and sew or glue in place. Wrap a strip of striped ribbon around the center and sew or glue in place also.
Bow cuteness right there.
Print out some spooky old Halloween photos. I just did a search for . . . . spooky old Halloween photos (genius huh?) and a bunch came up. I printed out these three the size of my small frames. (The frames are from Michaels)
Paint your frames and glue the photos behind them.
Cut two 3 1/2″ strips of ribbon and one 5 1/2″ strip of ribbon. Glue the 5 1/2″ strip to the back of the frame you want for the center, and the other two strips on the back of the other two frames.
Glue the top parts of the ribbons on the back side of the frame.
Oh look. There’s a black fabric-wrapped frame. See? Told ya.
Glue the pretty burlap bow to the top of the frame.
Glue on a couple of wee tiny crows. Gosh these are cute. Spooky-cute.
All done! Now you have a fun, spooky new Halloween decoration!
I love these old photos! They creep me out. In a good way.
So fun right? More Halloween projects are in the works – I can’t wait to show you!
