If you’ve visited Flamingo Toes before you know how much I love quilting and embroidery! So these Sewing Room Christmas Hoop Ornaments seemed like a perfect combo of the two things!
These were so fun to stitch up! The sewing machine ornament is a mini version of my larger Sewing Machine embroidery pattern. And both designs are on my Sewing Room Canisters coming out next spring!
These are tiny little hoops – only 3″! But don’t let that stop you from stitching them up – that just means they don’t take very long to embroider!
I think these would be fun gifts as well for a quilty friend!

Instructions:
- Trace the pattern onto the fabric, I recommend a fine tip pen and place the fabric in the embroidery hoop.
- Embroider the designs as follows:
- Red Embroidery Floss:
- Use three strands of floss and a back stitch – outlines of base of pincushion and sewing machine
- Use three strands of floss and a satin stitch – top and bottom of each thread spool, heart on “quilt”
- Use two strands of floss and French Knots – small dots on both hoops
- Aqua Embroidery Floss:
- Use three strands of floss and a satin stitch – dial, center of handle on sewing machine, outline of “quilt”, and spools of thread on both the sewing machine and pincushion hoops
- Use 1 strand of floss and a back stitch – thread line on top of sewing machine
- Use 2 strands of floss and French Knots – tops of two pins on the pincushion
- Yellow Embroidery Floss:
- Use 3 strands of floss and a satin stitch – inside of one of the thread spools on the pincushion hoop
- Use 2 strands of floss and a lazy daisy stitch – flowers on both the pincushion and sewing machine
- Use 2 strands of floss and a French Knot – tops of two pins on the pincushion
- Pink Embroidery Floss:
- Use 3 strands of floss and a satin stitch – inside of one of the thread spools on the pincushion hoop
- Use 2 strands of floss and a lazy daisy stitch – flowers on both the pincushion and sewing machine
- Use 2 strands of floss and a French Knot – tops of two pins on the pincushion
- Use 2 strands of floss and a back stitch – thread along the top of the pincushion hoop
- Gray Embroidery Floss
- Use 1 strand of floss and a straight stitch – points of pins and needle on sewing machine
- Use 2 strands of floss and a back stitch – needle on pincushion hoop
- Red Embroidery Floss:
- Trim the excess fabric around the hoop, about 1/2″ past the edge of the hoop. Glue the fabric inside the back of the hoop. I find hot glue works great for this!
- Glue the pom pom trim around the edge of the hoop, so the pom poms extend out past the edge of the hoop.
- Add a piece of ribbon through the hole below the screw and tie the ends in a knot for hanging.

I’m ordering some hoops and fabric from Amazon– If I order 4″ hoops what size fabric squares would I need? Do you think a 5″ square is large enough? I love this tutorial!!
