It’s time for Block Four in our Save the Bees Block of the Month Quilt!! If you’re new to the quilt, I’m sewing along with Jacquelynne Steves Save the Bees quilt and I am having so much fun making up these cute blocks!
This month the block is a completely pieced Bee Block – it’s so cute!! Since I’m using Vintage Adventure for my quilt I had a played with the colors a bit. I wanted to include some yellow though so I used the light yellow print from the Bunnies and Blossoms line of fabrics from Lauren Nash. I added in a little embroidery around the body of the bee and for the antennas as well. I think it coordinates so great with the other blocks!
I just love how cute the little antennas look. I haven’t sewn on these buttons yet – I’ll add them in after I finish everything up! But they are so fun!!

Last Christmas I received a hand-painted plate from a family friend. She painted the faces of all my beloved dogs on the plate. I have it displayed in the entry way of our home where it can be seen every day and all my visitors can see it too.

A couple of years ago my sister gave me a cat quilt. It is throw size and just perfect for a cool evening. She said she made it for me since I’m always cold and she noticed I had a blanket next to my chair. It’s my favorite handmade gift.

My favorite handmade gift was a wine color sweater knit by my mom.
The most precious handmade gift I ever received is still in my closet. It’s the small quilt made by my grandmother and gifted to me when I was about 4 or 5. It was printed cross stitch nursery rhymes and I still love it.
A friend made me a quilt for a special birthday. She quilted words of wisdom and support into the quilt. I still tear up when I find a new word or phrase while cuddled in the quilt reading.
The Greatest handmade gift I received was from my grandmother on my 16th birthday. A “Sunbonnet Sue” quilt.
I was the most beautiful quilt I had ever seen in all my 16 years and it was mine, a gift from my sweet Granny.
It met a sad demise a few years later. And this quilt is the reason why I wanted to learn how to quilt, now that my son’s are grown and I have more time.

After 46 years, my favorite handmade gift is still the double wedding ring quilt of vintage fabrics made by my Great Grandmother for my wedding.
My daughter made me a little pin cushion using a wooden hoop and I use it daily!
The best handmade gift I received was the wedding dress my mother made for me. She did this while working full time, doing the books for her husbands business, caring for twins that were 6 months old, gardening, canning and riding herd on the rest of the family. We all helped out but what an amazing, hardworking and beautiful mother I have.

My favorite gift was a quilt that both my grandmothers worked on. My maternal grandmother passed away before she could set some Sunbonnet Sue blocks together. My fraternal grandmother finished the quilt. It is so special to me.
My favorite handmade gift, outside of my childrens & grandchildrens artwork, would be a quilt that my maternal grandmother made that my mother passed down to me.
I adore handmade gifts, especially from my sons. A couple of years ago my son made a painting of Krumpus????hmmmmm. What / who is this I ask? He went on to explain and knowing his personality, it shines through in the painting. I adore it!
When I was just a little girl, my maternal grandmother gave me a beautiful Dresden Plate quilt that she had made for me. The quilt is now faded and worn, but I still have and treasure it.
I haven’t received too many handmade gifts but I would have to say that the infinity scarf my daughter made for me tops the list!

A Little wall quilt for a Christmas Gift.
I was given a quilt by our church blanket makers group when I had surgery. It had a fabric in it that was the same as one I’d used in a quilt I made for my sister. That made it extra special!

I dear friend of mine made my wedding dress for me — my grandmother passed when I was 9 — so this friend of the family (I was born on her birthday) made it for me
My loving Mother made my wedding dress and vale. How beautiful she made me feel inside and out. God bless her soul, she is now with God and I miss her so very much.

The beautiful quilt, made with care and love and exquisite craftsmanship by my best friend, is the dearest handmade gift I’ve ever received. Except, maybe, the velvet dress my mom made for my 5th grade Christmas program. At the time I did not fully appreciate that.

I had a lovely quilt given to me as a thank you for doing some research and restoring some artifacts for an school alumni of my fathers. It was a lovely journey I went on with him in his golden years. He has been gone now for 15 years but I have that beautiful quilt as a reminder of that time with him. :o)

A patients mother gave me a hand embroidery sachet upon her daughters death I had been working with her in the ICU for a few weeks before she passed and had gotten really close with the family! Even though it’s lost it smell, I still keep the little sachet in my dresser drawer!
Besides the wonderful handmade gifts from my kids, my favorite handmade gift is the ponytail hat my sweet neighbor knitted for me when I was six. I had a pixie cut, and she knew I wanted a ponytail more than anything! I still have it decades later. Thank you for the chance to win!

It is a latch hook Christmas tree skirt from my grandmother. She gave it to me year before she died and that was 37 years ago. I treasure it to this day and think of her everytime I look at it. She is the one who started me with crafts by teaching me to crochet when I was 12.

A set of wooden Straw hat Farmer and Sunbonnet Wife Hot pad hangers, hand made by my Grandfather for my Grandmother when they were first married. My Grandmother gifted them to me when I got married, 47 years ago. They hang on my kitchen wall next to my stove and I use and treasure them daily.

My Grandmother always made quilts by hand piecing and hand quilting. One of the best was a quilt for my dolls.
Any gift from my quilting friends. One knows I don’t like to do bindings. Many years she will do one as a gift.
A favourite handmade gift is a key fob made by a friend. apparently I always say “It will be okay, just breathe”
So she embroidered “Just Breathe” on it and now it goes everywhere with me as a loving reminder. =)

My mother made, totally by hand, a quilt for our 25th anniversary. It was a maple leaf and she went outside, got the size leaf she wanted and traced in all around the edge of the quilt (with a pencil) and quilted it. The sqs are 4 maple leaves appliqued on a large sq. It is so precious to me as mom has been gone a long time. And, yes, we do sleep under it.
My favorite quilting gift would be a beautiful cross log cabin lap quilt.
My favorite handmade gift I received was a set of bowl cozy. They worked great for me to hold a hot bowl of soup.
The best handmade gift was my beautiful wedding dress, made by my MIL I thought it was very generous of her to offer to make it before I was even in the family, I guess that was a good indication that she would be a great MIL.
My favorite home made gift would have to be a baby quilt that was embroidered by my mom and quilted by my grandma. It was supposed to be a panel quilt but grandma didn’t like it that way. She cut it apart and added sashing. My mom was so mad even when she gave it to me many years later. I could hear it in her voice!
A friend gave me a large cross stitch that she had done. I know she had put a lot of work into it, and I put it away for when the kids got bigger and did not ruin it. I found it a few months ago, still in the box. My friend and I drifted apart, as friends do, but I still think about her, and the cross stitch. To all the long, lost friends out there: You may be gone, but not forgotten.

Just last year, my best friend crocheted a cowl type scarf for me. It’s a deep purple color (my favorite) and I just love it1 It’s so warm and snuggly on cold, Iowa winter days!

I have a friend that is always making little things she has made and giving them to me. I like all of them. I think the best one is a pin cusion she made out of salvages.
Last year I received a multiple part handmade gift which consisted of a pincushion, scissor keeper, and needle book nestled in a hand covered box with a handcrafted ribbon. All hand embroidered. It was a secret Santa gift at my guild. I must have been a very good girl last year!

I have received and given a lot of handmade gifts over the years. My absolute favorite gift was a brooch that my daughter made when she was in preschool. It is made of modelling clay and has glitter all over it! She made it over 30 years ago, and I still have it. Thanks!

My daughter hand painted a Christmas ornament featuring our farm house. She would tell you she cannot draw or paint (she got that from me!), so it is especially precious to me that she would work so hard to do that for me.
I love cats! And my best friend embroidered me a counted cross stitch t-shirt for me with the word MEOW with a cat laying on top of the M. I loved that shirt and literally wore it out! What was really fun is she also made one for herself. We always wore them when we knew we would be seen together! :)

Sounds silly but last Christmas my husband made me a speaker for my iPhone out of recycled wood. It sits on the table near my sewing machine and works really well. Thanks for having a giveaway! :)

I love the color scheme you used for you Save The Bees blocks. They are gorgeous! My favorite homemade gift was from my mother. It was a quilt with canning jar blocks. We worked on it together and created many loving memories from it. She is now 96 years old and still cuts out blocks from recycled jeans to make jean quilts. Each quilt goes to a grandchild or great-grand child. If she hangs in there she will be making one for a great-great grandchild. I would say she has made over 70 jean quilts.

After being widowed at a young age 11 years ago today, I re-married three years ago….my husband’s sister from Scotland visited for the wedding and she brought me a beautiful Aran sweater that she had knit for me as a gift. My grandmother made a quilt top years ago that I just now found. It’s done in red work and a friend quilted it for me. So precious to me.
That’s easy to answer! My daughter made me a gorgeous smocked nightgown for my 50th birthday and I love it. She had young babies at the time so I really appreciate all the work she put into making my gift, and the time it took.

A few years ago, my husband made an extension table for my grandmother’s 1929 Singer sewing machine. I now have a larger surface for piecing and quilting. I love it!
I have a ceramic dish in the shape of a giant leaf that my daughter made for me in art class. I just love it.
My favourite handmade gift was a patchwork drawstring bag ( the Pink Penguin tutorial) made by my lovely Patchwork friend Sarah. It is always in my sewing bag, holding useful items such a small clips, spare needles etc. I have since made several for other sewing friends.

I must say that every handmade gift is my favourite but of the many I have received over my long life is the one my DH made me recently. He has MS so doing things in secret is difficult for him. We recently downsized from our 3000 sq ft house to a temporary home in a 500 sq ft apartment. Since I lost my sewing room and have only a sewing desk now I was so very surprised that he had secretly made me a free standing rack with hooks and shelves for my rulers and cutters. The reverse side has pins for my threads and a couple of small bins for notions! The whole thing takes up 1 square foot of space and has casters on the bottom so I can easily turn it around. It was all made with leftover bits of trim and moulding from when he built the house and shop 35 years ago. Beautiful wood and such a sweet thoughtful gift with so many memories and much love worked in to it.

A quilt made for me by a dear friend when I was going through my cancer treatments 10 years ago.
I have a wall hanging that was entirely hand sewn and quilted as a wedding gift. The woman who made it taught me to embroider as a child and does her hand work for “therapy” for her Parkinsons. It is a gift I treasure!
I love every gift I have received. But I do have an angel that a friend made and gave me. She is gone now, but every Christmas when I put it on the tree I remember her.
About 40 years ago my Mom did a crewel work piece for me depicting four trees, one representing each season. Her work was beautiful, just like she is. It’s a real treasure.
I introduced my sister to quilting by showing her how to use a rotary cutter and making a simple 4-patch. She went on to take classes at her LQS. After a couple of years, she gave me her first quilt as a thank you. It’s lovely and I was just so happy to share my passion! Now I have to say, she may be a better quilter than me!

My favorite handmade gift came from my mom. Although not a crafty person, she cross-stitched a beautiful piece, which my father then framed. It is a treasured heirloom that will be handed down through the family. I appreciate it more and more as the years go by. It was made for me when I was a young wife and mother. Having now been married for 44 years, you can imagine how dear this work of art is to me.
My most precious, favorite gift is the beautiful quilt my sister gave me. We were at a quilt retreat during a show and tell. My sister makes beautiful quilts and has won national ribbons. She asked me to hold up one side to show the ladies. That was the first time I saw the quilt. I was saying it was so beautiful, how I loved the daisy’s (my favorite flower) and the beautiful colors in the quilt. She said, “I made it for you!” I burst into tears and was so shocked and overwhelmed. This sister, by the way, got me stared on making quilts and is always teaching me techniques I never thought I could learn!
My mother gave me a hand crocheted bedspread that my grandmother had made for her hope chest. I will be passing this on to my daughter.
My family were/are not crafters. However I am, and give lots of quilted things from hand bags, to totes, wall hangings, and quilts.
My grandmother used to make Easter Dresses for all her granddaughters. I remember looking forward to that box every year and oohhing and aahing over the beautiful dresses she had made for me and my sisters. Totally the best gift I got every year as a kid.
I received handmade wooden “Forest People” — they set up in our hutch all year.
Not to be cheesy but, truly, my most favorite handmade gifts have been from my children.
My beautiful sewing table that my husband made for me is my favorite handmade gift. It has a drop-down back that makes it bigger, a lift for the sewing machine to raise or lower, a smooth white top and fancy wood trim to make it look pretty, and room underneath it for fabric storage. I use it almost every day and I just love it (and the guy who made it!)
My greatest gifts were the artwork and pictures received from my children and grandchildren.
My mother made clothes for the Besty Mcall dolls my 2 older sisters and I had.
I haven’t received too many handmade gifts since my mother passed away. She liked to sew seasonal decorations and I still have all of them because I just can’t give them away knowing that she made them!
My favorite are the handmade cloth books my mother has sewn, a collection for each of her three children as she is an excellent seamstress and these kids books were well loved and read by each of my kids as they grew up. She poured heart and soul into her sewing.
Being from a Crafty family I have received many gifts – The afghans my Mom made are very special now, since she is gone. My daughter hand painted a Nativity set for me a couple of years ago. I think it is my current favorite!

I love the vintage adventure fabric & have been hoarding it! Your block looks amazing! My favorite handmade gift I received was a block from every member of my hand quilting group from about 20 years ago. Each block is made strictly by hand. No rotary cutters,etc, and everyone embroidered their names in the center of the blocks. Three of our group have passed on so these blocks are my treasure!
