I’ve been wanting to work on my quilting skills this year. I will confess that I can sometimes not be a super careful sewist. But with quilting, there’s not a lot of room for that. You want all those points and corners to line up apparently. :)
So when I was at Snap Conference last month, I jumped at the chance to take the Quilted Pillow class from the Simple Simon and Company girls. I wasn’t able to complete the pillow in class, but I finished it up last weekend and I just love how it turned out!
I had never made a half square triangle (HST) project before but I’m kind of addicted now! If you’re not familiar with them, you basically make a square with two half triangles. You can find out all the details at this fabulous tutorial over at Simple Simon. The cool thing about them is you can get so many different looks by just moving around the triangles. It’s so fun!
I used straight line quilting on the front and a vintage sheet for the back. I did an envelope back so I could wash it – especially since Kato thinks I made it just for him.
He looks kind of territorial here doesn’t he??
I know this isn’t going to be my last half-square triangle project – I’m thinking a quilt next! Have you ever made a project with them??

Love the cushion, adore Kato.
Ah, this is amazing! Love not only the colors but the triangle patterning! It looks much more complicated than half triangles, but that’s the fun of quilt squares! :D
I am a quilter and HST’s are my absolute favourite!! This pillow and colour combination is particularly beautiful–good job on your points!!
You did a wonderful job making that pillow!
I love making things with hsts. In fact, I’m working on a tutorial today for making maple leaf blocks using hsts so I can encourage people to make blocks to donate to the quilt drive for those affected by the wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Gorgeous! thanks for sharing on craft schooling Sunday!
I LOVE this idea! What a great way to practice quilting without it being so overwhelming. I am so inspired to try something similar or at least take another sewing class.
Love this idea, super cute!! Thank you for linking up to #OMHGWW, Evija x

I love the colors of the triangle quilted pillow #HomeMattersParty
I have never made anything with triangles. But this pillow is so cute and cozy looking! I may have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!
Very pretty! Lovely work. :)
Your pillow turned out beautiful! Thanks for sharing at the Inspiration Spotlight party. Pinned & shared.
Can you share what size your pillow was and what size your HSTs were? I love this!
For an 18″ pillow your half-square triangles will need to be 5″ squared, Sewn in will be 4.5″ square.
