Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope you are all having a wonderful day with your friends and family!
I am super excited to show off my latest Christmas Sign. It has such a fun retro feel to it – I had a blast making it!
I have a quick and easy tutorial for you for my Christmas sign!
You’ll need:
- three 6″ x 18″ pieces of wood
- wood glue
- dark red and black spray paint
- paint for Joy To The World logo
- cardstock, pom poms and twine for bunting
- vinyl for stencil
- Joy To The World Silhouette file (free to Flamingo Toes followers)
I designed the Joy To The World image in Illustrator and then imported it to the Silhouette software. Then it’s a simple step to trace the design for cutting!
Cut the design out of vinyl to make a stencil.
To make your sign, glue the wood pieces together to make a 18″ x 18″ sign. Once the glue is dry, spray paint the piece with the dark red. Go over it lightly with the black spray paint to darken it more and to give it a more variegated look. If you add too much black, just add more red on top.
Remove the middle vinyl pieces and place the stencil on the wood. Paint the design, using whatever colors you’d like. Remove the stencil.
To make the dots around the design, dip the wooden end of a small paintbrush in paint, then dot the paint onto the sign.
Once the paint is dry, distress the entire sign with sandpaper.
To make the bunting, cut a long length of bakers twine. Thread a yarn needle and add wool pom poms to the twine. Space them where you’d like them. Print a map image onto cardstock and cut out the pennant shapes. Glue them between the pom poms, then glue the bunting to the sign.
That’s it!! You have a cute new decoration – or even a gift!
I hope you like it!

This is so festive! I love the rustic look you used by sanding the paint. And that bunting is SUPER adorable! I’ll have to check out the Silhouette deals and see what I need. :)
