This post is a partnership with Delta. All opinions are my own. ;)
I have the cutest little table in my entryway that was just crying out for some cute Fall decor! I painted this Happy Fall Wooden Entryway Sign with some cute supplies I found in the craft section at Target!
I love how they look paired with my little plaid pumpkins I made last year. These colors are so fun and I love the look of the turquoise mixed in with the oranges. It kind of updates the traditional fall colors and gives it more of a vintagey look don’t you think?
I found this great raw wood plaque at Target – I thought it was such a fun base for the sign. I combined that with some painted lettering using Delta Ceramcoat® paint from Target too, and some crafty items from around the house too. The lettering is so easy to create! You don’t need a cutting machine or know how to hand letter either! It’s just simple tracing and painting. So fun!
So let’s dive in!
Materials:
- Delta Ceramcoat paint in White, Pumpkin, and Caribbean Blue
- Wood Background for Sign
- Gold Twine
- Mini Clothespins
- Ribbon
- 4″ embroidery hoop
- coordinating fabrics
- embroidery floss
- marking pen
- Hot glue
- Hello Fall Lettering Template
Begin by printing out your template. The design is reversed to make transferring it super easy!
Place the template face down on the right side of the wood background. Trace over the edges of the lettering, making sure that your lines are just inside the printed outlines. This will transfer a little of the ink onto the wood plaque!
You can hold the paper in place with one hand and lift the edge to make sure you’ve covered all the areas. Outlining on the reverse side transfers a little of the ink from the printer to the wood. So easy!
Using a small paintbrush, paint in the letters. Use white for the Hello and Carribbean Blue for the Fall. It might take two or three coats since the paint will soak into the wood a little. You’ll also want to make sure you’ve covered all the pencil lines.
I left my lettering like this for a while, but then after adding the other elements I decided I wanted the Hello portion to stand out more so I used a fine tip brush and outlined the letters in Pumpkin paint.
The Delta paint has a great coverage and is so perfect for projects like this. You can also use it for stenciling or base coats and it works great on wood, terra-cotta or paper mache. I love the matte finish and that it’s Made in the USA too! You can find all sorts of great colors at Target, along with the new Delta Flash Metallics paint if you want a glossy metallic finish for your project too!
For the embroidery hoop, place a piece of orange fabric in the 4″ embroidery hoop. Draw scalloped lines for the pumpkin segments on the fabric and stitch these lines with 3 strands of dark orange embroidery floss using a backstitch.
Trim the fabric to about 1/2″ around the hoop and glue to the back side. Add a little pom pom trim if you like. Tie an aqua ribbon around the top of the hoop and fold the ends over to one side to create leaves.
Trim small pieces of coordinating fabric into pennant shapes and glue them around the gold twine. Place clothespins over the top of the fabric pieces.
Drape the pennant along the top left side of the wood piece and glue the ends to the back. Glue the 1st, 3rd and 5th clothespin in place to hold the pennant in place. Glue the hoop in place below the pennant.
Now you have a cute new sign for fall! This is going in my entryway but it would be great anywhere – a mantel or even as an alternate to a wreath on the door!
You can Find Delta Ceramcoat® Acrylic Paint at Target in 22 colors and six new Flash Metallic colors at Target in the craft aisle or at Target.com. They also have lots of fun craft materials there as well so you can make all sorts of projects!
