Are you still making gifts?! There’s still plenty of time! (At least, that’s what I’m telling myself.) Well today I have a quick gift idea that only takes a little while to sew up!
This Ribbon Tie Tablet Cover is so easy and fun to make! It’s a great way to show off a favorite fabric – like this darling floral and stripe print I picked up at Hobby Lobby last week. I just love the shimmery gold in the floral!
The tablet case has a handy little pocket – perfect for holding ear buds or a pen and notebook.
The ribbon tie makes it a super simple project too – no buttonholes or complicated tops to worry about! It’s the perfect project for a beginner. All you need to do to close it is flip the ribbon to the front and tie it under the button. Super easy and so cute!

Materials:
- Fabric for pocket, cover and lining – amounts based on your tablet size (mine is from Hobby Lobby)
- Fusible Fleece
- One button
- 24″ ribbon – mine is the Pink Salmon vintage ribbon from here
- Thread, Scissors, other sewing items.
Measure your tablet. Add 2″ to the height and width of the tablet – this will be your cover and lining measurements. Cut out 2 rectangles for the outer fabric, two for the lining, and two from fusible fleece.
Cut out 2 pieces of fabric for the pocket – the width should be the same as your cover and it should be about 3″ shorter than the height. You may need to adjust this if you have a small Nook or something similar. Cut out a piece of fusible fleece the same size as the pocket.
Iron the fusible fleece to the wrong side of each of the outside cover fabrics and the wrong side of one of the pocket pieces.
Place the pocket pieces right sides together and sew across the top edge with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Turn right side out and press so the wrong sides are together. Top stitch just under the seam edge.
Place the pocket on one of the cover pieces and line up the bottom edge and the sides. Baste the pocket to the front with a 1/4″ seam along the sides.
Sew your button to the top of the cover, halfway between the top edge and the pocket.
Fold your ribbon piece in half and place it on the top edge of the back cover piece, in the center. Sew 1/4″ from the top edge two or three times to hold the ribbon in place.
Place the lining pieces on each of the front and back cover pieces and sew along the top edge with a 1/2″ seam allowance.
Now we’re going to sew the front to the back. Place the front piece face up and the back piece face down on top of it, lining up the edges and sides. Take special care to line up the seams and pin in place.
Sew around all four sides with a 1/2″ seam allowance, but leave a 3″ opening in the bottom section of the lining. Clip all the corners.
Turn the cover right side out through the hole in the lining. Hand sew the opening closed.
Tuck the lining into the case and press. Super easy right?
Now you have an easy and cute table case – perfect for your Kindle or Ipad. This would make such a great gift too!
I hope you give it a try!
