Have you started on your gift wrapping yet? I am about halfway finished – mostly because I still have gifts to get. Ack! Shopping should be tons of fun this week.
I love wrapping things up in pretty or unique ways. It makes it so much more fun! I was browsing The Ribbon Retreat store a few months ago and came across this really fabulous wide twill ribbon. And I just knew that it would be perfect for customized ribbons!
Ok seriously – these were so fun to make! The possibilities are endless – you can create funny ribbons, sweet ribbons, ribbons for each person in the family, whatever you want! Let me tell you, I have a ton more ideas. Ribbons that say “My Favorite Sister” (I only have one), ribbons that say “This took forever to make.” and lots more! But let’s get started with these!
I couldn’t resist doing a mix of silly and cute – that’s just how I roll.
Here’s all you need to make our own!
- Twill Ribbons – I used Red and Tan
- Iron on Transfer paper – something that will iron on light and dark fabrics or a combination pack
- Computer, Printer, Iron, Scissors
Begin by designing your patterns. If you like mine you can download the files here – Tan Ribbon Phrases and Red Ribbon Phrases. Make sure you check your printer settings for iron on transfer paper as well as the instructions for the transfer paper you use. Some papers will want you to reverse the image, you can usually do this in your printer settings. Print out your papers.
Trim around the phrases as close as you can. Most transfer paper leaves a small imprint around the design so get as close as you can to the lettering. Place your design on your trim.
Always do a test transfer first. Mine took significantly less time on than the instructions said. Transfer your designs to the ribbon.
Repeat as often as you like per ribbon!
I made up a few different styles. For the darker ribbons, I put my phrases on a red background because of the way the dark image transfer paper worked – it didn’t peel away, but transferred instead the whole image to the ribbon.
Now you can wrap up your presents with your fun custom ribbon!
I hope you give it a try – it is so easy and fun!
