I love finding ways to personalize seasons to my style and decor! These Cute and Colorful Painted Pumpkins were so fun to make up and they look so cute in my colorful kitchen!
I’ve been wanting to do some Fall decorating in my kitchen but I wanted the decorations to blend with the room. I also didn’t want to spend a ton. :) I dressed up some inexpensive fake pumpkins from Walmart with just a little paint and ribbon!
The pumpkins were super easy to dress up using this awesome Apple Barrel Starter Kit from Plaid! It has such a great selection of colors and it worked out perfectly for these colorful pumpkins!
So great right? These are perfect for so many different crafts because they are Multi-Surface paints! You can use them on tin, terracotta, paper mache, canvas, wood, plaster, rigid plastic, fabric, concrete, glass, and ceramics – and cute fake pumpkins! :)
So let’s get started! Here’s what you need:
- Apple Barrel® Multi-Surface Satin Acrylic Paint 16 Color Set
- Large Flat Brush for Base Coating
- Detail Brush Set
- Faux Pumpkins
- Ribbon for stems
As I mentioned, I started with these inexpensive faux pumpkins. The stems had little “teeth” in them so I couldn’t pull them all the way out but I lifted them up a bit so I could paint under the stems.
Your first step is to cover the pumpkins with white paint. It will take a few coats but the paint covers the plastic really well.
Once the pumpkins are base coated draw out your floral designs lightly with a pencil. Start to fill in your flowers with a base coat of color. You might need a couple of coats on the flowers as well.
Continue painting until you’ve covered all your flowers and leaves.
Add in some details to your flowers and some shading. Dot the centers of the flowers with the base of the paintbrush and add dark green to the centers of the leaves for a little depth.
For the smaller pumpkin, paint small flowers scattered over the pumpkin with two small leaves by each.
For the smallest pumpkin, create the tiny flowers with a trio of dots and tiny leaves.
For the tiniest pumpkins I just painted little coordinating dots all over them. Super easy!
To finish off the pumpkins, tie a bit of ribbon on the largest pumpkins.
Now you can show off your cute pumpkins!
The great thing about the Apple Barrel Kit is that will all the colors, you can create something similar but in your color scheme! The blend really nicely too, so if you need different shades you can mix them up!

Love your pumpkins, so good to know the Apple Barrel paints cover well and do such a good job. Wish I could order a set right now. You made all your pumpkins look so festive and fun, little different look with the flowers, so pretty. Love the bitty pumpkins with the polka dots to coordinate with bigger pumpkins.
I noticed a beautiful embroidery project behind the pumpkins.
Enjoy rest of weekend

These pumpkins make me smile. I love the bright colors and the black/white ribbon is the perfect contrast. Thanks for sharing on Merry Monday. Will be including this in a pumpkin round-up.
