It’s been a few months since we did an Anthro knockoff – I was getting a little twitchy.
So of course I headed over and did a little browsing – and I fell in love with the Ceynote Layered Necklace. It’s all pretty, feminine details and chains layered together. And I love the different textures, like the crochet piece in the connectors. I think it adds such a fun look!
I added a few more touches of pearls in, along with a little pop of a pale almost minty blue in the small beads. I thought it was a fun wintery combo that would make a great transition into spring.
Here’s the Anthro version:
This one is a great stashbuster too – you can use up those tiny pieces of chain you never throw away (you don’t throw them away do you??) and random odds and ends of beads you have – or if you have some special or vintage beads you’ve been saving that would be perfect too!
Isn’t it a pretty combo?
Let’s get started on the tutorial! You’ll need:
- different lengths of chain, in several different styles and thicknesses
- drop beads – I used pearls
- larger focal beads for lowest strand (5 of them)
- pieces for connectors. (I used a combination of lace and metal pieces, but anything would work great here. Large beads, brooches, etc.)
- beading wire, jump rings, eye pins and head pins, crimp beads
- If you need help with any of the jewelry steps, check out my How To Do That: Jewelry page.
Start by assembling your two side connector pieces if you need to. You’ll want place to attach chains on the top, and four spots for attaching along the bottom and sides. Mine is a couple of metal pieces glued together with a crochet piece on top, then finished off with a small pearl that is flat on one side.
While those are drying, start on your lowest chain. Cut 6 lengths of chain – two pieces 3″and four pieces 1″ long.
Place an eye pin through one of your larger beads and create another eye loop on the other end. Connect one of the loops to one of the 2″ pieces of chain.
Add eye pins two four more focal beads. Connect your next bead to the previous section with a 1″ length of chain.
Connect your center bottom bead with a 1″ piece of chain to the strand. Finish it out the rest of the strand using the same length of chain in reverse to connect the remaining beads.
Cut a length of one of your other chains 11″ long. Add one of your drop beads to a head pin and form a loop at the top. Connect the bead to the center of your length of chain.
Continue adding drop beads on either side of the center until you have as many as you’d like. I added 11 beads and that section measures 5 1/2″ of my chain.
Connect these two strands to the two connector pieces, on the outside of each piece. Cut a length of beading wire that is 18″ long. Connect the wire to a jump ring with a crimp bead and add this jump ring to one of your connector pieces, towards the inside of the connector. String the wire with 9″ of beads and finish the strand with another jump ring and crimp bead.
Add this jump ring to the other connector. You should have three strands attached to each connector now.
Cut one more length of chain, 8″ long and add it to the connector pieces with jump ring. This should be your top strand so it will be on the inside of the connector pieces.
Cut two more lengths of chain, 7″ long, for the top portion of the necklace and add them to the tops of the connector pieces with jump rings. Add a closure to the chain. Mine is a lobster clasp and jump ring.
And that finishes off your new necklace!
I hope you will give it a try! What color combos would you use?
