Welcome to another week of Must Have Craft Tips – hosted by Michele from The Scrap Shoppe, Kara from Mine for the Making, Allison from A Glimpse Inside and me (Bev from Flamingo Toes)!
This month we’re focusing on Home Decor and today I’m sharing my favorite 3 Easy Decorating Tips for Any Decor! These are my go-to’s for decorating. I check every display I put together or item I buy against these three tips – honest!
3 Easy Decorating Tips for Any Decor!
1. Start with what you love.
Epic Pyrex Display – from A Beautiful Mess
It’s easy to get all sucked into pretty Pinterest photos and the coolest “new” things, but if they aren’t really your style or you don’t absolutely love them, it will kind of be like infatuation. Which is fun for a while, but then you get tired of it and you have to start over. Try to choose decorating items that you really love and that fit with your overall style. That doesn’t mean that you can’t pick things that are fun or whimsical, that is what gives your decor personality. Just choose items that make you happy!
2. Hang your wall art at eye level.

Eric Prokesh’s Wall Arrangement – Hang artwork at eye level.
Try and keep your artwork at eye level on your walls, it will make everything look more put together. If you put your artwork up too high (an easy mistake to make) then everyone will be craning their necks to see that awesome vintage stitchery or cute photo of your kiddos. If you’re doing a gallery wall, keep the horizontal center of the gallery at eye level. It’s totally ok to have things higher or lower, but the overall display should be centered where you look.
3. Decorate with odd numbers

15 Plates and 3 Items on the Buffet = Odd Displays!
Now this is not a hard and fast rule – I am all in favor of fun symmetrical displays. Two paintings side by side, or pretty vases on each end of the mantel make for a great, put-together look. But the general idea is that odd numbers, especially items in threes, are more visual appealing. They actually add more visual interest and force the eye to move around the group! Cool how the brain works huh? So if you’re putting together a vignette, a gallery wall, or even flowers in a vase – go for an odd number!
So easy right? I promise if you do these three things, they will be a great foundation for decorating in your home.
What are your go-to decorating tips?? We’d love to know!
I have used these 3 tips for over 40 years. I always said I was eclectic before eclectic was even cool! I love the blog title A Beautiful Mess. That would be me! You ladies rock and share my creative soul! Thanks for sharing!
“Start with what you love” is, I think, the most important and honestly, harder than people think! Its easy to grab the latest decor items or something you see online in a beautifully staged photo, but if it’s all just trinkets you don’t care about or you don’t love, you’re not going to like it in a few months.

I really like the way the pictures are hung on knobs like that. It really adds another point of interest if you use some neat looking knobs. And it would make it easier to swap out artwork if you like to redecorate often. Very unique!
what a beautiful vintage display in that kitchen, wow! You are so right about the rule of 3. Being a symmetry loving girl myself I often do pairs also. By remembering that flanking something with symmetry frames out whatever’s in the middle and makes it the star helps me decide whether to do pairs or threes. It’s all about what I want to be the feature. I think every room needs some of both.
Beautiful blog and great tips! Starting with what you love…i can handle that! It’s the rest of it I struggle with! lol
Great tips. I’m definitely going to start using odd numbers. And you have to love what you put in your home!
I always like odd numbers, especially in decoration. Ha! Didn’t even know I was being stylish :)
These are very good tips. Thanks for sharing with us at Family Joy Blog Link Up Party. Hope to see you next week.
These are good tips. I think when it comes to decorating it is definitely important to go with what you truly love and what speaks to you, not just what’s popular. Sometimes you can find a “look” on Pinterest that is lovely, but not right for your space so you definitely have to go with what works for you. I also think it’s important to use color when decorating. You want to have a color scheme that is inviting and appealing, but also pops of color to add some visual interest! Thanks for the post and good tips!
