It’s time for another fun week in the Riley Blake Designs Block Challenge, and this one is such a treat! Block 11 is the Pinwheel Pop Block by Amanda of Jedi Craft Girl, and it has the sweetest mix of classic and playful design.

This block really caught my eye right away — I love a good pinwheel, and this version adds such a fun twist with the framing details around the center. It feels both vintage-inspired and fresh at the same time, which is always my favorite combination.

For my version, I used a soft and happy palette with Sparkler Beach, Dainty Daisy Songbird, and Dainty Daisy Stargazer. The light aqua pinwheel gives the block that soft spin effect, while the deeper blues and warm tan accents help frame everything and add a little contrast. I especially love how the outer shapes create that subtle secondary design — it almost looks like little arrows pointing toward the center!

This block is a great mix of piecing techniques, but everything comes together in such a satisfying way. It’s one of those blocks that looks a little intricate at first glance, but once you start sewing, it just clicks into place. And it looks so fabulous with last week’s block, the Plus One block!

If you’re sewing along, I’d love to know — are you going bold with your pinwheel or keeping it soft and subtle? This block would be so fun to play with color placement!
