The 2025 RBD Block Challenge is coming soon – it is one of my favorite sew-alongs each year, and I can’t wait to dive in!
If you are new to the RBD Block Challenge, it is a free sew along that Riley Blake Designs hosts every year. A different RBD designer designs each of the blocks and they come together to make a gorgeous sampler quilt. Usually, the quilt is a mystery sew along, but this year, they are releasing the design, and it’s so much fun!!
I will sew along with my Melody fabric collection this year, so I recolored the quilt. I am so excited to sew it up! Here’s what my version looks like with Melody fabrics.
I’m using a fat quarter bundle for all the blocks and making the outer border a bit larger. So if you want to make yours with Melody fabrics, here’s the fabric info:
- For blocks: Melody fat quarter bundle (you’ll have some fabric left over)
- For inner checkerboard fabric: 7/8 yard (I used Melody Aqua Vines)
- For floral borders: 2 yards (I used Melody Main Oxford Blue)
- Background: 2 1/3 yards (I am using Melody White Vines)
You can find Melody in shops here.
It’s going to be such a fun sew along! You can find the patterns on the RBD website when they go live, as well as the schedule and the fabric requirements. I’ll be posting my blocks every week and I’d love to see yours! You can share your blocks on social media and in the RBDBlockChallenge Facebook Group.
The sew along starts on January 14 – I can’t wait to sew along with you!

I’ve not seen your Melody Collection until now, but I’m glad you’re using it in the RBD Block Challenge because it’s inspired me to purchase some for a new quilt project. I love the fabrics: birds, nature and lots of colors . I can’t wait to use them!
