I am all about sweet woodland animals right now! They are just too cute. Today I have a fun Woodland Animals Tic Tac Toe game that is super easy to play outside or inside. And it’s great for any age! Littles will think it’s so cute and I’ve had a blast playing with my daughter who’s in college – so anyone will love it! :)
The tic tac toe game is a fun combo of painting and embroidery and just simple crafting! If you don’t want to do the embroidery you can find lots of fabric with little animal faces that you could use. Try checking the children’s or nursery fabric section of your local fabric store.
Are you ready to get started? Here’s what you’ll need!
- 13 Covered Buttons
- Linen
- Embroidery Thread and hoop
- marking pen
- Felt to go with animals – brown, rust, white, pink
- Red and white polkadot fabric
- 3 white wood spools
- green and white polkadot felt – I bought all my felt here
- wood slice
- white paint pen
- black sharpie
- hot glue
Begin by drawing out a face for the animals you are using. I drew a little heart face for the hedgehogs and a nose and eyes for the foxes.
Embroider the faces with French Knots and a little stem stitching.
Cut out the faces but leave at least a 1/2″ around each face to wrap around the faces. Put each of the faces on a covered button.
Cut out shapes from the felt to finish off the faces. The hedgehogs have little pink ears and spikey circle shapes and the foxes are made with little rust faces and they have white sections on the bottom and on the ears. Hot glue these all in place and then glue the button in place.
To make the mushrooms, cover buttons with the red and white polkadot fabric but don’t put the bases in place, just glue the fabric over the top portion. Paint three wood spools white and glue them to the bottom side of the buttons.
Cut out little scalloped circles from the green and white polkadot felt and glue the spools to the felt. Now you have cute little grassy mushrooms!
Glue the mushrooms to the top and bottom of the wood slice for a little decoration. Paint on the lines for the tic tac toe board with white paint, then outline them with the black sharpie. Draw on little decorative lines for the birch bark.
Now you’re all set to play!
I think you’d have so much fun with this – and it would be cute with any little animals!
