Well I am super excited to share my new Christmas Wreath with you today! If you have visited here before you know that I love things with a colorful retro feel to them – so this wreath was a perfect fit for that vintage style! I am just all in love with little bottle brush trees – and I strongly feel that pom poms have a place in every holiday – so of course I had to use both in this vintage style winter wonderland wreath!
I really love too how the felt flowers look like Christmas bows. I think they look really sweet paired with the colorful pom poms and the little mini ornaments.
So let’s get started! I promise this is really easy! Here’s your materials list:
- One wreath form – I used the flat sided version
- fabric for wrapping foam
- yarn – something chunky and soft
- more yarn – for pom poms
- felt for flowers
- ornaments, mini bottle brush trees, deer, and any other little decorations you’d like (my mini ornaments for the wreath and pennant came from Hobby Lobby)
- baker’s twine and ribbon
- hot glue
- pins
Begin by wrapping your foam wreath with white fabric strips. I used a simple inexpensive muslin. You might be asking – “Why am I wrapping a wreath with fabric when it’s going to get covered up with yarn?” Well. If you don’t wrap the foam first, every time you send that yarn through the center of the wreath to wrap it, it’s going to get caught on all those little rough foam edges. Which will make you messy and irritable. I promise.
Sooooo. Wrap your wreath form with fabric strips, then begin wrapping with your yarn. Choose a nice chunky yarn and the wrapping will go that much faster. It’s still a process though. Maybe put on a nice movie to pass the time. I watched Leap Year. The scenery in the movie is just the yummiest. ;)
Continue wrapping until your wreath is all covered with yarn. Glue the ends down on the back side.
Begin creating an assortment of felt flowers and pom poms for your decorations. I made two sizes of red and pink pom poms and an assortment of bright pink and green felt flowers. I used Beckie’s tutorial for the flowers – I just love them!
Begin by adding your flowers and pom poms along the side and bottom of your wreath. I used pins to hold them in place but you could glue them down too.
Glue in some mini ornaments throughout the flowers for a little extra color.
Begin to add in your trees and any other decorations you’d like behind the flowers. I used three bottle brush trees. The two red and white decorated trees are from Hobby Lobby – the center darker tree is a cheapie I picked up at Walmart and decorated with pearls and beads.
Glue your trees and maybe a little deer behind the pom poms. I have 3 medium trees, the deer and I think 5 super mini trees scattered in there.
For the pennant, string super tiny little ornaments into some baker’s twine. Pin the twine to the back of the wreath.
Add a little retro ribbon bow and your wreath is all ready for hanging!
I hope you like it!
This wreath is part of a fab.u.lous. wreath hop too – with a bunch of seriously gorgeous wreaths by some of your favorite bloggers! You will definitely want to check them all out. They are just yummy and there is something for everyone’s style!

Yayyy Amber!! I would love to see a photo! :) :)
Sorry, I know I asked before, but…Did you use glue on the fabric strips, or pin them? Beautiful!
Hi Carrie! Sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier. I didn’t do either, I just wrapped the yarn over the fabric and it held it in place. But if you want it held in place I’d do glue, that way you won’t have little bumps under the yarn for the pins. Hope that helps!
I love it
This may sound odd, but, I’d buy this. You should make them and sell them on Etsy.
