Check out my new-vintage tablecloth. . .
Tricked you didn’t I??? ;) I’ve been wanting to make a tablecloth skirt (as weird as that sounds) for quite a while, ever since I got my copy of “Sew What! Skirts“. LOVE this book. And they have the stinkin’ cutest skirt made from a tablecloth in there. Ever since I spotted it I’ve been on the look out for a cute vintage tablecloth I could cut up and wear.
(I know, it’s vintage. And I chopped it up. But I figure it’s still getting used and loved, just in a new way. So it makes it OK, right?)
Here’s what it looked like before I went Edward Scissorhands on it:
I don’t have a tutorial for you – but I basically used the book directions for the tablecloth skirt as a guide – and I used one of my favorite skirts I already had as the pattern. It’s just a basic A-line with a side zipper. The book does teach you how to make your own pattern and/or cut out the skirt without a pattern. But being a semi-lazy sewer, I grabbed a skirt that fits to use as a guide. Saved me some measuring.
I did the cute square pockets like they recommend, folded down with little buttons.
I love how it turned out and it’s super comfortable to wear.
The clever, talented gals over at Crafterhoursare having a Skirt Week competition June 21-25 and I’m throwing this into the ring. Not that I’m expecting grand things – I just apparently have a very hard time letting a contest go by without entering it. I’m not sure what that says about my personality. haha.
I’m not looking at the other skirts entered yet because I’ll talk myself out of doing it – but you can see all the skirts from the links on the Crafterhours sidebar. There are four categories: Straight, Full, A-Line, and Little Girls Skirts. And if you have a great skirt there’s still time to enter it.
Cute! The pockets are very clever, great job!
I ♥ it! It’s very Vintage And I agree, the pockets are adorable!
Oh. My. Word. This is adorable! I wish I could make stuff like this. I’m terrible at making clothes. Trust me.
So darn cute.
ooo, I love the pockets!
What a cute and great idea!
I think that tablecloth will see a lot more fun as a skirt! I think it was bored with sitting on shelves and an occasional table. And I bet it likes twirling. (So cute!)
That is SO cute!! I just found you over at “Whatever Goes Wednesday.” It’s very nice to “meet” you. I can’t believe that adorable skirt was made out of a tablecloth. No one would ever know! My favorite is the cute little pockets. Very creative and nice job. : )
I love taking old things and making new things out of them. You did a great job with this skirt…the pockets are adorable!! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful, you did a great job on it. I have a vintage tablecloth has some rust stains on it, perhaps I could make an apron out of it! Thanks for the inspiration.
I think you should win. That is a really nice skirt, and the pockets are the cutest.
Loving the pockets.
Thanks for linking up with Sugar & Spice.
Love that book and love that skirt! Those pockets are so cute! Great work!
Oh Beverly — that is darling and it looks so beautiful on you. Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. You’re right. There aren’t too many of us and we definitely need to acknowledge each other!

Love it! In fact I have a tablecloth set aside to make myself a skirt too! It’s not a vintage one but a pink and orange one (I can’t seem to resist pink and orange these days). :)
This is really well done, I like the print on the vintage tablecloth! Happy Transformation Thursday <3
Yay! I just saw this on the Shabby Nest. I wish I had something to share :-(
Really pretty. I love the pockets!
Love it! The pockets are so perfect! You did a great job.
I love this skirt! As soon as the page opened I knew it was vintage. It is something no one else will have. Love, love, love it.
