I love trying new things! I’ve been wanting to try a mini quilt for quite some time now and I am so happy to show off my first one!
Quilting is so fun but it can be time-consuming too – the beauty of a mini quilt is that you can have all the fun of piecing but you don’t have to do it on a huge scale. I don’t have a lot of experience with this (ok, none haha) so I picked up a book that looked so fun, “Little Quilts“. (affiliate link)
It’s full of cute little projects and I thought one of the quilts would be perfect to show off this awesome Born Wild fabric from Blend Fabrics.
It’s all cute little acorns, florals, and of course, little woodland animals!
I did a lot of fussy cutting with this – I wanted to show off the little animals and they were perfectly sized for the squares of the quilt. It took longer to cut everything out, but I think it was worth it!
For the back, I used the Woodland Creatures in Pink fabric. It’s hard to tell in the photo but it’s a really soft pink with woodland animals all over it.
The book recommended for this quilt to hand quilt it so I gave it a try! It was kind of tricky. :) Not difficult, but it was time-consuming and my stitches were not super even. I really love the look of it though!
I had so much fun with this, I can’t wait to make more! I think I need to make that cute little vintage mini quilt on the cover next. :)
Have you ever made a mini quilt? I’d love to hear about it!

GREAT JOB!!!! I’ve enjoyed hand-stitching mini quilts for a couple of years now and I enjoyed this post! Your “fussy cutting” adds SO much and I also love the way you quilted around the little critters and other images. Very inspiring! Please post your next project because I’ll be looking forward to seeing your version.

I am just thrilled that I found your blog! I get so excited when I see a new post from Flamingo Toes because I know it is going to be something I don’t want to miss! We seem to have a lot of similar tastes. Thank you and keep up the good work! ( no pressure :)
I am also wanting to make a mini quilt and love the woodland animals fabric line as well as the book. If I don’t win, I hope to purchase both. But winning would be so much more exciting!!

So Pretty! I remember my mom making little quilts like this when I was a young girl. I loved wrapping my baby dolls in them. Awe, memories! Well done on your beautiful quilt.#Shine-blog-hop
