This sweet Home Embroidery Hoop Art is such a fun project to make and it’s a perfect hoop for a beginner to embroidery!
Last week I was able to teach an embroidery class at the Snap Conference in Salt Lake City and it was so. much. fun!! We had about forty ladies in the class and it was so great to be able to teach some basic stitches and show how fun and easy it is to create hoop art.
I was able to teach some basic stitches – the back stitch, the lazy daisy and the French knot. You can do so much with those three stitches – most of the hoops I make use those three!
I have all the tutorials on my Embroidery Tips page but I’ll be expanding the embroidery tutorials this year to include some stitching videos. That way they’re easy to see and learn!
I’m sharing the pattern for this hoop here today so you can make up one too!
Materials: (contains affiliate links)
- 10″ square of fabric
- 7″ embroidery hoop
- Small fabric scraps for house and bunting (fabrics are Wonderland 2 from Melissa Mortenson)
- Wool Felt pieces for door and roof (Benzie Design is a great resource for wool felt)
- DMC Pearl Cotton thread: Colors – white, 961, 912, 807
- Fusible Webbing
- Embroidery needle
- Hot Glue
- Transfer pen
- Scallop Shears
- Home Embroidery Pattern
Instructions:
- Use a transfer pen to transfer the pattern to the fabric. Transfer the bunting line, the home text, the line of grass, the flowers and stems.
- Iron fusible webbing to the back of the fabrics for the house and bunting and the felt for the roof and door. Make sure your felt is wool or it will melt on your iron. Cut out the fabric and felt pieces.
- Fuse the fabric and felt in place according to the pattern.
- Stitch the design.
- Use a Back Stitch for the grass, Home, stems, and the thread over the bunting.
- Stitch Lazy Daisies for the flowers.
- Stitch a French Knot for the door knob.
- Optional – stitch a running stitch around the roof, door and house.
- Trim the fabric on the back side of the hoop and glue the extra down to the inside of the wood hoop.
Now you have a cute new hoop to hang up, or to give to a friend! Wouldn’t it make a fun housewarming gift too?
If you stitch one up, I’d love to see it! You can check out a bunch of photos from the class by heading over to Instagram and looking at the hash tag #flamingotoessnap. There all look so good!

How adorable. I haven’t made any of your embroidery items yet, but am going to give this one a go. I learned to embroider when I was just about 6/7 and did it for years, pillow cases etc. Thank you for your inspiration!

This is so cute! Years ago I made a few machine applique designs in embroidery hoops, but I haven’t seen them used for the past several years. So glad to see a renewed interest in embroidery. Thanks for sharing at the Favorite Things Blog Hop and Linky Party. Nina @ Vintage Mama’s Cottage
