If you’re a regular FT visitor – you know that I don’t do giant grand stuff too often. or Ever?
But I have some big things I’m working on and so I thought I’d share my plans with you! (And by big, I mean, big for me. Not like I-built-an-entire-craft/play/storage-space-in-my-hall-closet big. )
But fun for me all the same.
So here’s what’s up!
We’re redoing my daughter’s room. And as you might know, we can’t paint the walls (boo rental). So we have to add colors in another way.
The room is inspired by this pin:
(This is actually a photo from the Etsy shop selling that darling vinyl quote on the wall. Cool huh?)
We’re tweaking the style a bit. My daughter already has a white iron daybed. So we’re adding these guys to either side of the bed and doing a long shelf close to the ceiling between them with some lighting.
The Bedding is Amy Butler’s Morning Glory that I picked up on clearance at BBB. Woot!
I’m accenting with other fabrics that match from the Lark collection. I am thinking it will be a really fun, bright room even if we can’t paint the walls.
Ok – so that’s the girl’s room. I’m also currently working on my bedroom!!
We had an Ikea bedroom set that’s we’d bought a few years ago. But last year after my Grandmother passed away, we inherited the bedroom set that was in her guest bedroom.
It was my grandparents bed when they got married and it’s been in the family for a really long time. I’m so thrilled to have it. So of course I have to redo my whole room. ;)
Here’s the plan.
My goal is to have an “antique” feel with the ticking fabric but with the modern gray, red and cream colors.
The ruffles section above are going to be this bit of gorgeousness – I am so in love with this ruffle throw.
(This is by DIY Design and she has a great tutorial for it.)
I’m not as far along in my room as I am in my daughters. I still need to figure out the artwork over the bed. I have a giant gold mirror (also from my grandma) but I’m not sure about the gold.
Or if I want that over the bed. . . hmmm.
I like this big mirror – and they even have the ticking on their bed.
But I also like these flippy wreaths . . .
It’s a work in process. As you can tell by my master bedroom pinboard. It’s a bit all over the place.
So what do you think?
I’d love your opinion about everything – and any thoughts or suggestions you have!
I can’t wait to show you the finished rooms!!

I love the ‘wall of frames’ on your Pinterest; maybe you could combine these frames and the giant gold mirror to make antique-yet-shabby-chic atmosphere (ok, I’m saying this because I don’t know how giant or how gold your mirror is!)? Ruffle throw’s gonna be amazing, and can’t wait to see how everything comes together!

Love the stuff for your daughters room!! Looks like great ways to add color w/o painting. The stuff for the master is gorgeous- I think that ruffle throw wll be gorgeous out of that fabric – its so much fun to redo spaces!!

Gorgeous pin! Can you come do my room when you are done. I think that is a great look…and may steal the idea later – my daughter already has a day bed too! I think you have some lovely choices…when I am doing a room…I have to start with the big piece and then I usually do not make all of my decisions until I progress…so I am impressed at your planning!

I can not wait to see what you come up with! I LOVE the first image with the day bed. So pretty and colorful! I just redid my family room without paint (not because I couldn’t but because I am lazy, ha!) and just by adding new colors and textures it changed the entire look of the room! I love it now! You are super creative and will do an amazing job on your daughter’s room. She is lucky!
Rebecca
p.s. when you are done with Holly’s room will you do one in my house to? :)

What about hanging a flippy wreath over the mirror?

So cute! In your daughters room if you wanted to add some color on the wall behind the bed you could put coordinating fabric/sheet on a spring tension rod between the bookcases before you add atrwork! So many fun things to choose from!

OH my….what inspiration….your daughter has got to love her new room…
and on your fabric choices for your room….lovely….and you MUST MUST post the photo of your
yummy ruffled throw when it is completed…..I just love it.

and as far as the antique gold mirror—-no rules here…..you can antique it even more by painting it and tossing out the gold…I am not a fan of gold anything….just rough it up, base coat with a color of your new room—then another coat of maybe a soft antique white/cream and rough up some spots on it to let out the base color!!!

I am so in love with that ruffle throw too!! I’ve been trying to convince my mom (who is an amazing sewer) to make it for me. No such luck…yet. This is my first time here and I love it!

Loving the colors in the example room for your daughter. Your room is going to be great. Why not paint the mirror from your Grandmother? You can distress it to look like the example you showed.
I can relate about not being able to paint. We rented for so long, can’t express how you want your home to be. But you’re so smart to have some of what you want with adding the colors in accessories, bedding. Those things will come to your eyes first, not the white walls.
We might own our place but I’ve been waiting for 6 years to have our walls painted. We have a single wide mobile home with those vinyl walls, yuk, I’ve been stuck with original buyers choices. Someday I’ll just get the paint out and get to it. I”m not supposed to be on my feet too long but guess I can do it in stages.
That ruffled throw would be awesome. Kind of daunting but doable. Good luck with your room and your daughter’s.
What does BBB mean where you said you got the Amy Butler bedding? We don’t have alot here. I do know who Amy Butler is, love her stuff.

Hi there. I know we’ve never met, but you are my online BFF. I also live in Southern California and I looked up the event you were co-hosting in Orange County. I gave it some serious thought but decided I was too introverted to go by myself.
I have to say, again, that I love your creativity, the jewelry, the decorating. I wish I had more confidence in myself to try some of your ideas. I did make the linen and pearl bracelet, then changed it cuz I couldn’t tie it myself and it was bulky when tied. I started another one for my mother, with some beautiful pale green glass beads and pearls. I wasn’t going to add the chains because I was afraid it wouldn’t go with the beads. I’m still playing with it, and my mom is getting antsy! She wants it now.
I could really use the jewelry box, my armoire broke in my last move. (What better piece to start with, I’m pretty much thinking of throwing it out.) I can’t hurt it, right!
