Woohooo – it’s time for this month’s Sew Our Stash update!
If this is your first time visiting, here’s what Sew Our Stash is all about! Marissa from Rae Gun Ramblings and I made a goal last summer to do more sewing for ourselves – and to use up our stash! So every month we show off what we’ve made. We’d love to have you play along too! You can check out the hashtag #sewourstash on Instagram and we’d love for you to post your photos too!
Last month I shared a roundup of dresses that I want to make – and wouldn’t you know it this month’s dress isn’t even on the list!
I just fell in love with See Kate Sew’s new Penelope Peplum and I had to make it up this month.
It was foggy on picture day. So we have a cool spooky vibe going. Nice.
The Penelope Pattern was originally just the top pattern but Kate just released an add on for the pattern that includes a gathered and circle skirt versions. I knew that I wanted to make the dress version and I’d planned on the gathered skirt until I saw Adriana’s pleated version. Well that sealed the deal for me.
I think Adrianna’s shorter length is really cute. I might trim off an inch or two from mine. But I love the pleats at the waist – and this knit is perfect and holds the shape really well.
Since the dress was pretty plain, I wanted to add something a little fun so I sewed little x’s at the shoulders. Just for something fun. The added bonus is that they totally hold the facing in place. Boom.
The dress is suuuuuper comfortable and I can’t wait to make up the top version. And maybe the circle skirt too. I don’t know. I really love these pleats.
I’m also wearing my most recent Anthro knockoff necklace (time for another one don’t you think?!) and my Easy Anthro knockoff bracelet too!
This isn’t a sewing project, but I wanted to show off the scarf I made this month too. (Apparently I’m in a gray sort of phase.)
This pattern is crazy fast and it is super easy too. Here’s the link to the pattern. I already have a mustard gold one started – I think I might trim that one in a pretty cream or something. Maybe.
So what have you been sewing? Leave a link in the comments so we can all check it out!
And don’t forget to head over to visit Marissa and see what she sewed for her adorable pregnant self this month!!
LOVE the dress! Did you use a double knit for it? The scarf is beautiful, too–I would wear it with that dress (if I wasn’t wearing the pretty necklace). :)
Thanks Miranda!! It’s a ponte de roma from Girl Charlee – http://www.girlcharlee.com/black-foil-dots-on-charcoal-ponte-de-roma-fabric-p-8913.html?cPath=90_132
It has a fabulous weight – I love it!
Love the dress! So cute. The link for the scarf pattern takes me to another dress? Am I missing something? I’d love to have the pattern for the scarf. Thanks.
Sorry Mary! I had the wrong link to the scarf in the post. Here’s the right one. http://classycrochet.wordpress.com/2013/01/12/free-pattern-diamond-lattice-chain-crochet-infinity-scarf/
I’m so glad you like the dress too – thanks!
The dress is so cute and I love the pleats! I really want to get the pattern now. I can’t wait to see your mustard gold version!
Thank you!! I really like how the pleats turned out too! The pattern is great – lots of options! :)
Where did you get the pattern for the cowl? It looks like a super fast project and I’m needing a hand work project for the evenings. thanks!
Hi Rebecca! Here’s the link for the cowl – I had the wrong one in the post. You’re right – it is a super fast project! http://classycrochet.wordpress.com/2013/01/12/free-pattern-diamond-lattice-chain-crochet-infinity-scarf/

Adorable! I am in love with the fabric. It is perfect for this dress! I’m loving the sleeves and those cute little x’s. Look perfect with your jewelry!
Thanks Michele!! I love the longer sleeves too – and it can still wear a sweater over it if it’s chilly out. Yay!
SO cute, Bev! I love that fabric, and the pleats are beyond adorable!
I love that dress! Fantastic fabric, and super flattering! I cannot gush about it enough! Your projects are always awesome, but January has been really spectacular for you!
I love your dress! It turned out great!
I actually put “Sew Our Stash” on my 20 Wishes list, but did not get anything sewn for me… YET. There’s still one day left in the month, right? ;-) -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
I love both! I’m a sucker for gray and it looks great on you.
I have no idea how it got to be the last day of January and I have not sewed anything yet!!! I definitely need to get my own stash sewn up. :)
