Did you catch our big announcement last month? Sew Our Stash is back!
Every month Marissa from Rae Gun Ramblings and I are challenging ourselves to sew a few things to wear and use up fabrics in our stash at the same time! We are making things even easier this time around – every month will have a challenge focus! This month our theme was Tops!
I’ve been needing to make up new summer tops so I was super excited about this theme! I’ve been wanting to make up some Sorbetto Tops – it’s an awesome free tank top pattern from Colette Patterns. Here’s what I came up with!
For my first version I kept the center box pleat the same as it is in the pattern and added a little bias tape bow and buttons up at the top. I added about 3″ of length as well – I don’t like super short tops.
I think the contrast bias tape really sets off the fabric don’t you? I wish I’d paid attention to the center pleat alignment though – it would have been better if those flowers were centered! I still like it though – and now I’ll know for next time. :)
For my second version of the Sorbetto I flipped the pleat to the inside and sewed it in place 6″ down in the center. I added a piece of lace cut to a point in the center front.
On this version I also turned the bias tape to the inside, it’s the same process you just reverse the way they say to sew it on in the instructions.
I think it lets the lace be the focus a little more, don’t you?
I really like both these and I can see making a lot more of this simple top. I used a lawn fabric for both of these but I’d love to do a cotton version with maybe a peter pan collar – and maybe a chiffon version for something dressier!
The Sorbetto is a great starter pattern, if you haven’t sewn many apparel items before you could definitely start with this one. And if you search Sorbetto Top on Pinterest you’ll find all sorts of fun versions!
Did you make any new tops this month? I’d love to see them – leave a link in the comments! Head over to Marissa‘s to see what she made this month too!
If you need a little more summer sewing inspiration I’ve put together some projects for you – take a look at these!

So I linked Sew Our Stash up to my social sewing calendar, and I DID sew from my stash, making three tops, but somehow only now remembered to connect the two :P http://swoodsonsays.com/grainline-studios-hemlock-tee-a-pattern-review/

I will definitely be making one of these shirts! I don’t know if it will be me or for a gift, but these are beautiful and I really want to have a go at them. Great fabric choices by the way, shopping your stash really paid off here.

I added my Sew Our Stash to my Me Made May collection. I really wish I could have done two like you did, I love both. Did you have to alter your Collette Pattern? I’ve heard that they are blocked for a D-cup bust (I hope I said that right?) I did my first Sailor Top from Fancy Tiger Crafts. Excited for next month. http://www.kaleidoscopeofcolors.com/2015/06/me-made-may-2015-celebrating-handmade.html

The knit summer dress link doesn’t seem to be working. Could you send a new link to this tutorial?
