I can’t believe we’re already diving into summer! I’m super ready though – barbecues, fireflies, and summer vacation – here I come!
I’ve been in a bit of a decorating lull around the house but now that we’re hitting warmer temperatures I want to freshen things up around here with some cute summer decor!
I am not so comfortable with paper crafting – but I’m really wanting to get better! So I pulled out my Minc and my Cricut and got to cutting and foiling and I’m loving how this little DIY Summer Time Pennant Banner came out!
It’s super easy to do, and it’s all decorated up with pretty pinks and greens – and little gold butterflies! Isn’t it summery?
I used the Minc to add foil to the letters and butterflies and let me tell you – that is so easy, even for me. The letters are a mix of bright pink, light pink and a kind of rosy gold – that’s a little hard to tell in the photos but it’s so pretty in person! For the background I found this awesome green glitter paper at Walmart. I thought it was perfect for a Summery look!
The tutorial is super easy! You’ll need:
- Heidi Swapp Minc paper in the vine pattern
- Green Glitter paper (2 sheets)
- Minc Butterflies
- Foil in an assortment of colors
- Twine for hanging
- Glue and foam mounting stickers
Begin by cutting out your letters from the vine paper. Do this before you put on the foil so you can mix and match your colors of letters. I kept my letters about 1 1/2″ wide x 3″ tall but you can adjust them however you’d like.
Run the letters through the Minc machine to add the colored foil to the paper. There are lots of ways to add foil to projects and papers, but the Minc really works the best – it’s consistent and super easy to use!
Cut out your pennants – mine were 5″ x 6″ triangles. I cut out two extra pennants for the butterflies on each end.
Measure down 1″ from the top of each pennant and stick the letters to the pennant with the foam mounting pieces.
Layer your butterfly shapes together and glue the layers together. Stick these to the pennant shapes as well. Punch two holes in the tops of all the pennants.
You can add in some little butterflies on a few of the letter pennants as well. String the pennants together on a long piece of baker’s twine and you’re all set and ready to hang!
I put mine on my mantel – which is super simple still. I need to add in some cute summery things. I love the color it adds though!
If you want to check out the Minc for yourself – you can find it at Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann – plus lots of local and online shops!
Do you do any decorating for Summer? I’d love to hear how you change things up for different seasons!
