Oh you guys – I am so excited about this!!
So I mentioned last week that I had a little announcement after my Fabric Weekend Roundup post – and this is it!
I am excited to stay that Marissa from Rae Gun Ramblings and I are starting a new monthly series called “Sew Our Stash”!
I think I’ve mentioned that Fabric Weekend was amazing. :) The girls attending were the most crazy-talented sewing bloggers. Like, making entire outfits for the weekend. Pretty dresses, cute tops, Sabra even had some killer pants that I would never have known were handmade.
I used to sew apparel for myself all the time. I remember wearing outfits I’d sewn in Jr. High!! (I need to look up photos. They were probably horrific.) I made my wedding dress for heavens sake. But for some reason or another, I just got out of the habit of it. I think maybe not being the exact size I want to be has something to do with it. But that’s a story for a whole different post. ;) I don’t want to make excuses though. I have all this lovely fabric now – perfect for dresses, tops, maxi dresses – and I need to get to sewing!
Well, during the weekend, Marissa (from Rae Gun Ramblings) and I got to talking about how much we wanted to sew for ourselves more. So we decided to help each other keep our goals – and we’ve come up with the Sew Our Stash series to help us! We would love for you to play along if you want!!
We have committed to sewing more apparel – and at the end of each month we’re going to show off what we’ve made. We don’t have specific numbers or anything – but we will have at least one new thing to show off at the end of every month. We’ll be posting on the last Thursday of the month and we’d love for you to join the fun.
I’ve been browsing around, and I have some things that I’ve pinned that are my “to-do” list! These are just a few – I have a ton of “regular” sewing patterns too that I am dying to use.
So let’s have some fun with this! Stretch ourselves!! I know until I get in the swing of things, not everything I make is going to be perfect – or off the rack perfect. That’s ok!! The more I do it, the better I’ll get and the more I’ll learn. :)
We have buttons that you can grab – and we’ll be using the hashtag #sewourstash on Instagram and Twitter so you can follow along with our progress, and share what you are making too. (If you don’t have items in your stash you can make up into clothes, you can still play along of course. I am not promising to not buy new fabric for this lol. If you buy it and take it home, it’s in your stash. Boom.)
Grab a button if you’d like to play along and post your apparel adventures – we’ll be posting on the last Thursday of every month. So you can look for our first post on June 27!!
Make sure you’re following along with Marissa too – I know she already has some awesome things in the works for this month. She’s definitely inspiring me to get going!!
So what do you think?! Are you in? :)
Oh, this sounds fun! Great idea. I will try to find time to play along.
Love the idea. I have lots of projects that are not getting done and I need a deadline.
Oh my gosh!! I’m so excited to see more sewing!! Yay!! I’ll join in if I get a chance Bev, I really want to get rid of some of this stash! I’ve been really booked up on sewing though, which I suppose is a really good problem to have. I swore I’d make dozens of dresses this summer and haven’t made myself a single thing!!
I’ve never participated in a sew along before but I do plan on making some clothing for myself & my daughter out of some of my fabric stash here in the next couple of weeks before 4th of July hopefully. We’ll see how it goes! I might post them along, we’ll see.
Ooooh! I want to play! I need to start using all these remnants I keep buying. I pinned a pajama pants tutorial for my boys and I’ve been itching to try it out. This may get me motivated to do it! Yay!!
And I’m pretty sure I speak for all of your readers when I say… we need to see a photo of this wedding dress you made!!! :)
I used to make all my clothes but haven’t done much at all for several years. Maybe this will be the push that I need. Certainly have a big enough stash.
I can’t promise apparel ( that never works right) but yes to de-stashing sewing!
I’m in!
I have so much on my to-sew list right now, but I totally want to make some things for me along with all the crap I’m making my kids.
I’m super excited! I’m definitely going to done one of those fun Maxi skirts (I may have gone knit crazy during fabric weekend)
