It’s time for another round of Sew Our Stash!
Marissa from Rae Gun Ramblings and I started this challenge to push ourselves a little – so we’d sew up items to wear and use up our stash at the same time! This month’s challenge is Closet Copy! Our goal was to take something we loved from our closet and make our own version. Super fun right?
I sort of played with the theme a bit. :) I had this skirt a couple years ago that I loved that didn’t fit any longer and I’ve been dying to make one like it! It had a straight front and a gathered elastic back and it was so comfy. I found this pattern that was really similar and it even has a vintage feel to it. Perfect!
The pattern is the Vintage Pocket Skirt pattern from Sew LA and it’s a super easy skirt to make up! Perfect for beginners or a fast project for experienced sewists.
I made it up in this pretty ikat twill. It’s a great weight for it. And I love these oversized pockets on the sides – I want to make up one with something contrasting!
I also made up a sundress for Melly Sew’s 30 Days of Sundresses series based on an elastic waist dress I had. I love the colors and the pretty little collar!
I am so glad we’re doing this challenge! It’s really making me sew up some clothes that I don’t think I’d make time for otherwise. What about you? Have you made up anything this month? Link it up in the comments!
Our challenge next month is Polkadots! I’m excited! There are so many ways you can incorporate that – you can do anything from make a whole outfit with a polkadot fabric to just use it as a highlight, like in a collar or pockets! It will be fun to get creative with it. :)
To give you some inspiration – since you can use polkadots for anything, I’ve put together a roundup of patterns to try! I usually share freebies in our roundups but there are some amazing independent pattern designers out there. I encourage you to check them out!

Yay it’s all so beautiful! Your skirt is so cute! I love the fabric. Last week I sewed a navy polkadot wrap skirt with pleated trim and my first underskirt! Very excited about it.
I wish I knew how to sew! (I crochet). All of these look so cute, and like so much fun to put together!
Love the dress you made! The collar really pops.
