I want to be better about giving back more, and this is the perfect time to put that into effect!
When World Market contacted us about their new Share the Joy Campaign, and posting about ways we could give back, I had someone in mind right away.
My sister is a kindergarten teacher and she had a student last year who has had to miss a lot of class this year, in first grade. His family has had to travel because his little sister has a rare form of cancer and she is being treated at an out-of-state hospital. During these treatments, they’ve been able to stay at a Ronald McDonald house, near the hospital.
If you’re not familiar with Ronald McDonald houses, they provide homes near hospitals so that families can stay nearby while their children are in the hospital, or being treated.
I thought it would be a great idea to send a gift basket to the Ronald McDonald house that the family is staying at – something that would be a great basket of toys and activities they could play with, and something that would be for the other families as well!
World Market has a great selection of toys that I thought would be really fun for the house! Some fun retro things, books, magnetic activities, things that would perfect for taking to the hospital and back too! They are perfect for a Christmas gift basket!
I love all these little handheld and magnetic games. I think those funny little Magnetic faces are so great – they have them for boys and girls. They had little puzzles and retro games too like the peg game and tiddlywinks. These would be great stocking stuffers too!
I tried to pick quieter activities. Not knowing how many families are in the house, or how everyone is feeling, I thought it was best to do more activities that didn’t make a lot of noise. I loved this little paintable garden gnome and the scratch art boards! I thought the Memory game would be great to play with new friends or mom and dad at the house.
These books are so sweet – they have a lot of Golden Books and some fun older books too! I loved reading Blueberries for Sal to my kids when they were little. And I couldn’t resist this little pig softie – he is so cuddly!
I am excited to send this off to the house – I hope they have a lot of fun with it! We sure had a lot of fun putting it together – we made it a family event and we all went down together and picked everything out.
World Market is also having a Share the Joy sweepstakes. Here’s the info!
