Oh my goodness. I don’t know about you, but for me, the holidays reaallllly feel like the holidays when my kids are out of school and home!
Last week, they both finished up with finals, so we had our yearly “school is over so now we can celebrate Christmas” party! It has become a holiday tradition here since the kids started college. This year, I decided our party needed to have a retro style, so we had a retro Christmas party!
I decided we couldn’t have a retro Christmas party without a record player! I found this little turquoise beauty on Target.com, and I knew we were meant to be together. It fits perfectly on my little table next to the tree. I used it for the party, of course, but I also listen to it when I’m in the kitchen and dining room. I think after Christmas it’s going to my sewing room though!
The record player was the perfect touch – we had fabulous Christmas music going in the background all evening long. We found a few records at the local antique store that were so inexpensive!
Kato decided to get in on the fun. Everyone loves Nat King Cole.
I am not ashamed to admit I dressed him up for the party. He was surprisingly tolerant of it. And oh so handsome, don’t you think?
For our treats, I laid out some yummy things to eat on our bar. It was the perfect spot to hang out and eat. Oooh – and you can get a sneak peek of my new teacup sconces over the sink! I have a tutorial coming for those in January. They are so fun!
I had to dress up the bar with a little pink tree, because what says retro better than a little pink tinsel tree?
I made things super easy on us by picking up a few paper supplies for the party. I love the retro style of these Let It Snow napkins! For a party like this, I feel like I’d rather hang out with the kids and chat and see how all the tests went, rather than worry about dishes and fancy table settings. And when the supplies are this cute, it’s a win-win!
I gathered up a few metal pieces as well. I think the ice bucket and pretty votive holders have a mid-century feel to them, don’t you? I also picked up some sparkling apple cider. We don’t have celebrations without that.
I think our yearly end-of-school celebrations might always need to be retro. The record player and all the bright touches made everything feel so festive!
Target is making online ordering super easy with free shipping until December 25!
