I am so excited for today’s project! I am sharing this fun new Patriotic Pom Pom Wreath today – and I am so in love with all it’s fabulous pom pommyness. But I have something else super fun – I’m taking part in a huge Ultimate Red White and Blue party with over 100 projects from talented bloggers!
Abbey from The Cards We Drew gathered up this huge group of fun projects so you would have tons of 4th of July Inspiration, all in one place! So at the end of the post you can check out everyone else’s cool crafts, recipes, printables and more!
But first, let’s take a look at what I made!
I have been wanting to make a Pom Pom wreath for ages – and I had so much fun with this one! It did take a while though, so I decided to make it as changeable as I could. The entire wreath is pinned into the foam, so all the elements are able to be changed out! I can remove the stars and sweet little blue pennant, and add in something festive for Christmas – or I can add in some hearts for Valentine’s Day. So cool right?
Here’s your tutorial – this is all super easy to do.
You’ll need:
- Approx. 1 skein of yarn per color, if you’re doing a two color wreath (I used the inexpensive yarn from Michaels – it worked great for this!)
- Wooden Stars
- Pins
- Head Pins for jewelry – these are pins with flat heads
- Fabric and baker’s twine for pennant
Begin by creating a ton of pom poms. Make more than you think you’ll need, and know you’ll probably end up making more when you go to pin them into your wreath. :) I made two sizes of pom poms, because I wanted my wreath to be a mix, but you can make them all the same size if you want, that would be cute too!
Using pins that coordinate with your colors, run the pin through a pom pom and pin it into your foam wreath. Push the pin in far enough that it holds the pom pom securely in place and you can’t see the top of the pin in the yarn.
Continue pinning pom poms to the wreath, changing up your colors and size of pom poms. Check the sides to make sure the foam is completely covered. Make those extra pom poms I warned you about.
Paint up your little wooden stars. You only need to do the top and sides of these.
Glue head pins to the back of the stars, so you can pin these to the wreath as well and change them out for the next holiday if you want.
Pin the stars around the wreath, so they sit in between the pom poms.
Create a cute wee little pennant by cutting out coordinating fabrics and gluing them to a length of bakers twine.
You can pin this in place too, by making a small knot in each end of the twine and pinning the knots to the back of the wreath.
And that’s all there is to it! So simple but so cute – and you have a fun wreath you can use for other holidays too!
I hope you give it a try!
Make sure you check out the other projects in the Ultimate Red, White and Blue Roundup too! I am so blown away by all the inspiration here!
