It’s a new month – which means it’s time for a new block in the Happy Little Things Quilt Block of the Month!! And a new Giveaway! Yay!
Block of the Month 3 in the Happy Little Things Quilt is this darling flower surrounded by half-square rectangles and some little squares that are perfect for fussy cutting.
I used the mix of Vintage Adventure and Vintage Keepsakes that I’ve been doing for this quilt and I had a blast fussy cutting those little squares with the Vintage Keepsakes handkerchief print!
Don’t let those half-square rectangles make you nervous either on this month’s Block of the Month! I was a little worried too but they went together super easily. Jacquelynne has a great method for assembly and she’s left plenty of room for trimming, so they look great when all trimmed up.
I did some free-motion applique for my flower, I love the extra contrast the black Aurifl gives the flower. I also left off the two little leaves on the top of the flower that are on the pattern since I was using a floral there that I wanted to show off.
I think this is my favorite block of the month so far – I’d love to do a whole quilt of these! It is such a fun star block to sew up.

If you had described it to me without the picture I would not have thought twice about it. I have to admit to being an applique snob- I don’t like raw edges. But yours look so nice! I haven’t started any holiday sewing yet because we just moved this week. I can’t wait to hunt out the new quilting and fabric stores in my new region! Our family always does a ‘year of the…’ item in the stockings – something fun or unique as a reminder of significant things that year. It’s usually the same thing for everyone, and we have a blast with it. It’s more challenging that all my kids are grown! But yesterday one of my girls gave me a great idea for this year, and I’m hoping I can work on finding a pattern and sewing it up in November!
Sunday Best has been on my wishlist! Thanks for participating in this BOM and giveaways!
