So I thought I’d give you some updates on what’s been going on around here behind the scenes – a little bonus look for you. :)
August has been a little bit crazy! (I think I say that every month.)
I have totally been on a sewing kick. Do you get in grooves with your crafting?
I love to do lots of things – but sometimes I get in a groove and I’m a little obsessive. Right now for me it’s sewing. I want to sew up my entire stash (that would be silly, then I’d have to buy a new stash, wait, hmmmm) and make all sorts of things. Bags, clothes, dishtowels, hoops for days – you name it!
I’ve made a cute new dress – I can’t wait to show you in our Sew Our Stash post at the end of the month! (How’s your sewing going??)
I am loving this Pattern Runway pattern for the Easy Kimono Dress. The dress goes together super fast and the sizing was spot-on. I didn’t have to make any wonky adjustments or taping. Which was good because I was lazy and didn’t make a muslin. ;)
(Also, washi tape for pattern piecing makes that whole boring process so much more fun don’t you think?)
We were in Arizona in July helping my sister move into her awesome new house. I had SO much fun. It was kind of insane week with everything we wanted to get done, but it was still a blast to help her get kind of settled and semi-decorated. I think my favorite thing we did was to change out her Dining Room light fixture. She’s going for a kind of an industrial farm look in there and this cool green colander looks sooo much better as a light fixture than the previous one.
It was really easy to do too with a pendant light kit from Lowe’s! We just slipped the end in through the large hole in the bottom of the colander and then Mr. F.T. in all his awesomeness rewired the thing.
We are also in full-on Back To School mode here! Jake is getting ready for his senior year (copious tears being shed in quiet so I don’t embarrass him or me) and Becka’s already trucking along at the CC. So we’re doing the whole school supply-clothes-shoes shopping thing. Which even at their age is a little crazy.
Especially since we don’t start for another week and Jake won’t get his list until for the first couple days, and by then all the stores look like they’ve been attacked by wolves and you’re lucky to find a pencil stub floating in the bottom of the cardboard display. Fun times.
Since we’re all getting ready for school I thought it would be fun to have a little giveaway! I’ve teamed up with Roo from Neon Fresh (formerly Nice Girl Notes) who is, by the way, my favorite blog writer on the interwebs (seriously – she’s funny and awesome. Go. Follow.) and we are bringing you a giveaway from Famous Footwear!
If you are in the New York area, they have three new stores opening, in White Plains, Selden, and the Bronx. If you’re not in New York just check out their website and you can find the one closest to you! We’re giving away FOUR $50 gift cards! Woohooo! So back-to-school-shopping-for-shoes gets super easy. Or maybe momma-needs-new-boots-sorry-kid shopping. That’s ok too. Just enter below in the Rafflecopter box. Easy peasy!
(Giveaway is open to entries 18 years and older and residents of the US)
As a last note, I apologize for the excessive use of parenthesis in this post. (not really, I just felt like I should because wow. Lots.)

I love Cindy’s light fixture. You are so crafty and awesome. Love your blog
Suzie Hurst says
I love the colander pendant light you did! Would it be too terribly difficult for someone who is a infant when it comes to home improvement experience outside the realm of painting?
Beverly says
I don’t think it would be too hard Suzie!! Maybe I can get Doug to do a little mini-lighting tutorial for us. I think it’s just pretty much taping off and matching up the wires but then, I didn’t do it. lol. He said it was really easy though so I think you could do it!! There were also wiring instructions with the pendant kit so that should make things even easier. :)

I love the light fixture! So creative! Think I’m gonna steal that idea!

Hi Bev. I love the colander light fixture. Too cute. I am looking forward to getting a bigger hunk of time for working on one project area, such as sewing. I am currently working on re-organizing my craft room so I can accomplish more. It gets out of whack too easily (that’s a ‘me’ issue, not a space issue). The Kimono dress looks cute. Thanks for sharing.

Love the light, and shoes!
Thanks for the chance!
Monique Belmer says
I have got to make myself a table set!! Thanks for the chance!
Monica says
The light looks so much better! I sure hope brass fixtures go out of style for good, haha. Thanks so much for the giveaway!
Niki says
I love back to school shopping — especially for shoes! Would have fun making that cute colander light too though. :) (And I love parentheses too, so no worries.)

Back to school shopping ended up being next to nothing for a senior. College will be another story.

Love you blog! Very interesting and fun

shoes? I love them! When I am depressed I buy shoes. It makes me happy when they are shiny and blingy and I love them to be comfy as well!
Joelle says
Shoes for my 8-year-old was the most expensive purchase I made this year for back to school …. would be wonderful to win so mama could get a new pair too! ;-)
Lynne Tilley says
No kids to school for me. They are all grown and married now. But I sure remember those days; what fun!
Rachel Verdi says
Yay! Shoes!!! I’m not a shoe person, really, at least not compared to most women… but I sooo have my eye on a pair of super comfy soccer sandals. ;) Fashionable? Noooot so much. Happy happy tootsie land? You betcha! ;) So crossing fingers on the giveaway! Luuurving your sis’ new dining light fixture! It is so darn cute, and seriously… the old one was beyond heinous, so rock on you crafty ladies for resolving that situation tout de suite. Thanks so much for the chance to win goodies, and here’s wishing you good luck on the back to school shenanigans! Oh, and btw… I get TOTALLY obsessive about crafty things… one month its ‘decoupage everything in sight!’, next its ‘make every fabric flower known to man’. So don’t feel bad… its not at all indicative of a problem, just an overactive creativity bone.
Hugs & Hope,

I LOVE back to school shopping. Even though my kids are grown and I’m doing a bit of shopping for the grands, there are still lots of bargains for office supplies and clothing that make it fun. Be especially blessed…

So cute pendant light. My mom is using a similar colander to make me a succulent garden.
And who couldn’t use a new pair of shoes? My hubby is so hard on them, we are always buying him some new shoes. This would be so helpful!

school doesn’t start here until Sept 4, so I still have a few weeks to get ready. We haven’t hit out rush (Personally, LOL!) yet. But I am thinking next weekend we’ll be shopping and getting ready…
Wish us luck! The gift card for shoes would SURE come in handy as teen boy sneakers tend to cost $$$$

My friend talked me into running a 5K, so I need some good running shoes to train! And willpower. You don’t have a giveaway for that do you? :)

My back to a school shopping this year consisted of purchasing some Lush Uptown reprint yardage by Erin Michael. Obsessed!
Kelsey M says
Hmm, I need some new heels. This would be perfect!!!
Kelli says
I did all of our back to school shopping (except for shoes) online this year and would highly recommend it! So much easier than fighting with my 9 year old who’s sure she’s the next Project Runway star.
Kaylee says
I love back to school shopping! I don ‘t have any kids and am not taking any classes right now, but every time the stores start lugging out notebooks, crayons, and folders, I really want to buy it all. There’s something about writing in fresh notebooks with new pens that I just love.

I love back to school shopping – but I don’t have a real reason to do so (for a few years)
