I really love to craft with unique materials – and to try things I haven't done before!
When I was contacted about creating some items for Prom with Duck Tape® I was excited to have some fun with them! My son has made wallets with Duck Tape® – A LOT of wallets lol – but I haven't every gotten crafty with it! Till now!
I had so much fun creating these Duck Tape® & Chain Feather Earrings!
Aren't they fun?! I think they'd be so perfect for Prom – they're such a bright pop of color. And Duck Tape® has so many colors and prints now that you could definitely make some up to coordinate with your dress.
But they're cute enough to wear every day too. My daughter has already stolen these and worn them to school. :)
They are so simple and fun to do! You can create these with your teenagers too – there isn't any complicated jewelry work. Oooh – and wouldn't they be fun to make up as a party craft?
So here's what you'll need:
- Duck Tape® Roll
- Scissors
- clamp
- jump rings
- Chain
- Earwires
- jewelry pliers and wire cutters for chain
Start off with your favorite colors of Duck Tape®. I love their selection!
Start by cutting a strip of Duck Tape® that is twice as long as your feathers, plus a little extra. Fold the strip in half. Trace a feather shape and cut out two feathers.
Now we're going to make our feathers look a little more like . . . feathers. :)
Cut some notches in one of the shapes. These can be as big or as small as you'd like.
Now we're going to cut in some little slits along the sides, like a feather would have. Just make small cuts in towards the center. Have them angle around the feather similar to your notches. To give it a little more of a feather look, fold the feather in half lightly. This will add a little crease down the center.
Lay this feather over your other shape and cut out the notches in the same place. The slits don't have to be exactly the same, just close. Fold the feather in half the opposite way – so the feathers are mirror images of each other.
To finish them off, add a small clamp at the top of each feather. These are wee little ribbon clamps. Just fold the ends around the top of the feather with your flat nosed pliers.
Once you have the clamps on, cut some small lengths of chain. Add the loop on the feather clamp and the chains to a jump ring. Add this jump ring to another ring, then add that ring to your earwire. (You have to do this so that the earrings hang straight, and not sideways.)
Repeat for the other earring and you are all done!
I love how fun they are! And they're super lightweight too!
Duck Tape® is having a fun Stuck at Prom® Scholarship Contest! You can find out all the details here. There are $40000 in scholarships available. And with one in college and one that's almost there – I can vouch for how useful that would be! :)
