This Cozy Plaid Flannel and Fleece Cowl Scarf is one of my new favorite accessories! With the temps dropping like they are, I definitely need something warm to wear and this scarf is so perfect. It’s easy to slip on and it dresses up a casual outfit!
It’s made with this super soft flannel and cozy faux sheepskin fleece that is sooo soft! I added a little contrast flannel binding with some cute lace and a vintage button. You can really have fun mixing and matching your fabrics.
It goes together super quickly and it’s a perfect project for a beginner sewist. Here’s what you’ll need to make your own!
Cozy Plaid Flannel and Fleece Cowl Scarf
Materials:
- Flannel fabric: 13″ x 44″
- Fleece fabric: 15″ x 44″
- Small Flannel Fabric Pieces: 2 pieces 4″ x 9″
- 2 pieces of crochet lace: 9″
- button decoration
Place your flannel and fleece fabrics right sides together and line up the long edges of both fabrics. Sew together with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Pull the flannel slightly and line up the other long edges. Sew with a 1/2″ seam.
Put your hand in through the center of the two fabrics and grab the opposite short end. Pull the end through until the short ends line up. Match up the flannel and fleece and make sure the seams line up.
Pin the edges together. Sew around the ends with a 1/2″ seam allowance, but leave an opening of about 4″ for turning.
Turn the scarf right side out through the opening. Hand sew the opening closed.
Now your scarf if super cute and you can leave it that way if you want!
I added this fun contrasting plaid binding too! To sew that up, sew a piece of crochet lace on each long side of one of the small plaid pieces. Make sure the lace points in towards the center of the piece.
Place the other piece on top and sew the two long sides together just inside the seams for the lace. Turn right side out and press. Press under the short end on one side 1/2″.
Wrap the binding around the scarf and tuck the open end into the folded end. Sew the binding in place.
Sew a cute button onto the front of the binding for a little extra fun!
You can really have a different look with different buttons too. Here’s what it looks like with a wooden button.
That’s it – so easy right? It’s my new favorite – it’s so comfy and warm!

Beverly,
This scarf is gorgeous and so appropriate for this weather! Love the colors! It would be nice to wear with any sweater or coat, and keep you warm as you’re sitting around watching TV (and not crocheting!)

Why couldn’t velcro be used on the band so you could have several to interchange?
