I don’t know about you but I am SO ready for Spring! And even if the weather’s still yucky outside, I can make things cute and colorful inside. I made up this Colorful Spring Tulips Table Runner from Pat Sloan‘s new book – Celebrate the Seasons! I just love how it turned out!

Pat’s new book is just perfect for fun, holiday projects! There’s something for every season. I had to start off with a Spring table runner but I am definitely going to make up more of the projects! There are 14 projects in the book – and they range from pillows to placemats to quilts. So many options!
The table runner is called Twirling Tulips – isn’t that sweet? I made it up in a combination of Vintage Keepsakes, Vintage Adventure, Blossom from Christopher Thompson, and Gingham – all from Riley Blake! The aqua’s of the Blossom and Gingham go so well with the pink prints from my fabric collections don’t you think?
Pat’s version in the book is gorgeous too – I love the pinks and greens she used!
I’d love to make up this Tulip Quilt too! Isn’t it scrappy and sweet?!
I really love the Summer Sky Pillow too – I think you could have a lot of fun with fussy cutting on that one!
One of my other favorites in the book is the Nordic Winter Dreams quilt! How gorgeous is this?? It has such a vintage, classic style to it.

Summer seems to be the forgotten season for quilting as everyone is either finishing up spring projects or planning winter projects. but I love to sew for summer as the sky is the limit in patterns and color combinations.

I love to sew for the summer! We have a camper and it’s sew much fun to make table quilts, flag bunting, pillows and sew much more. The colors are bright and sunny and helps make our campsite just like home.

Every season brings more quilted designs to love, so how can I decide? I love the flower designs after a long winter, the bright summer colors after that, the browns and yellows of Fall are welcome after summer’s heat, then back to Christmas greens and reds which are so nostalgic. There’s no way to have a favorite – I love them all!
I always like to see what colors you decide to use in these projects. It is always a surprising and beautiful twist.

From the patterns I have seen I really like spring. It says bright, cheery and that warm days are ahead.
I think I make spring and summer projects most often. There is nothing better than a cheerful wall hanging full of flowers! I also like to make bright cheerful pillows for our front porch.

I see this book, and think spring! The tulip quilt sure catches my eye…but then I see the blue and white one…oh, choices! Pat is prolific, and this book can sit right next to the other ones in my library…!
I have never thought of it this way before. I sew most in the winter because I live in Michigan where winters are freezing cold. But you will finding me on the beach in the shade, (watching over the newest grandbabie while everyone plays in the water) hand sewing or cutting out mittens to latter sew on the machine or finishing the hand stitching on the cuffs. I guess winter- not because everything sings Winter but because Christmas falls in that season and most of the children and grandchildrens birthdays. Also in Michigan winter is the longest season we have here.
I have a question for you- How do you transition into having people pay for your things or services instead of giving everything free? Someone wants to learn how to do something and the next thing that comes out of my mouth is I can show you that on over. I live in a poor community where people do not have the money but they need and what to learn the skills. I need to make a living but I also know what it is like to be too poor to do anything, yet desperately needing a creative outlet. Where is the balance? Do you have any ideas?
I am just throwing this out for consideration: if you feel your skills are proficient enough to teach others, perhaps there is a community college close by where you might offer to instruct an adult evening class. Our area community college offers a wide variety of adult ed. classes-everything from Essential Oils 101 to Building a Fishing Rod. The “crafty” type courses are always popular. Good luck. You pose a very interesting question on many levels.
Hello Susan, I read your comment and your situation made me think. For me the solution has been to separate the “sharing” from the money-making. I used to do bridal alterations but eventually found that doing it for money took the joy out of it. I still occasionally do alterations for family and friends for the sheer joy of sharing my talents and being a small part of that big day. I make my money in other ways. For you, it seems you need to tap into some sort of more affluent market. I wish you luck!

While I enjoy sewing and needlecrafting all year long, I would have to say that the fall/winter season is my favorite. First of all, I’m inside more than I’m outside due to the winters we experience in the Plains states. And secondly, I just love the sights, sounds, scents and colors of the holidays we celebrate. So much sewing fun!

MY favorite season is definitely winter! The reason is that it gives me more time to spend in my quilting room without feeling guilty of not being outside doing yard work.

Fall is my favorite, but I sew every day. My family all want Christmas quilts. I have 2 tops ready to layer and quilt 2 on my design wall and 2 more to make. I quilt on a Janome with a nice deep throat so I have plenty of room. I fmq and enjoy the flow of the patterns . I would make all of the patterns in this book if I won it! I sew every day and have 4 projects going right now.

Ooo! To pick a favorite season, all are great! With that said the best season would be from spring to mid fall, with most sewing in the evening enjoying the creativity and inspiration from nature. Hopefully have the quilts complete to curl up in for the winter.

My favorite season is fall. Our little country church has a Harvest Auction in October, and I work all year making quilts, table runners, wall hangings, pin cushions, etc. for the auction. I love Pat Sloan’s books and patterns. I’m really looking forward to this new book!

I love Fall quilts. The beautiful colors, all the woodland animals and pumpkins just go together so beautifully. I always look forward to that time of year because cooler days are coming soon after the long summer days.

What an interesting question! I had to really think about my answer……..my guess is I don’t really have a favorite season to sew for but I do like bright, happy colors, so I would have to say Spring. It is currently about -17`c., (about 1`F.) and am anxiously awaiting Spring. We are having the coldest Winter in about 83 years, so I am hoping Spring is on it’s way. Your table runner is quite gorgeous. Thank you for sharing your inspiration.

I love all the seasons. Right know I been working on decorating my whole house for each season. I only have Halloween and Valentines done. I like holidays just as much as I want the season. I certainly have no seasonal sewing decorations in my house. I have made a lot of quilt but have given more of then away then I have kept for myself. I am trying to work on balancing the making quilts to give to other and making quilts for my house hold. I would love to have a set of Pillow cases, wall hanging, quilts, and table runner to decorate for each season.

I find myself sewing more in the winter months when it’s too cold to be outside for London periods of time. In Wisconsin the winters are pretty cold so I set up good lighting and sew from November through April. Too busy in the summer to stay inside but do take small cross stitch projects to sew.
Spring; love the smell of the flowers and trees coming to life. Love the tulip wall-hanging and table runner; reminds me of home.

I think Spring is my favorite. I love seeing all the pretty flowers blooming and my daughter loved watching the trees turn green and watching the leaves. I would love to make the tulip quilt in her memory, she loves tulips. I lost her in a car accident Dec. 21st.
