You guys.
Ok – most of you know I have a shoe thing right? This is not a secret.
But now I think I’m getting addicted to this whole shoe-refashioning thing – check out my latest creation!
Aren’t they just the cutest??
They’re even adorable in the back!
I have had these little flats from Walmart for ages – I just couldn’t decide what to do. But this weekend I got to playing with fabric and mod podge and I love how they turned out!
These are super easy to do – and pretty quick! The longest part is waiting for everything to dry.
So here’s what you’ll need:
- Plain flats – mine are from Walmart
- Fabric to cover toes
- lace
- fabric and rhinestone buckle for bow
- permanent marker
- mod podge
- E-6000
Start out with some plain flats. Cheapies are totally fine.
If yours have a little bow – chop that off.
With your permanent marker, draw on some little polkadots. You don’t need to get the toe covered, but put them everywhere else.
I found that the slower I drew them on, the more round they looked.
Cut a piece of scrap fabric to make a pattern for the toe piece. Fold the fabric around the toe and use a marker to draw in where the leather of the toe ends. Cut this out, then use it to cut out your good fabric. Cover the toe of the shoe with Mod Podge all the way to the tip and lay your fabric over it. Make sure the toe lays down as flat as possible.
Let this dry for about 15 minutes. Once it’s dry, if your fabric overlaps the base of the shoe a bit, you can tuck in with a needle. If it’s longer than that, trim it off by running an exacto knife between the leather and the sole.
Put another coat of Mod Podge on top of the fabric to seal it better.
While the Mod Podge is still wet, lay a piece of lace over the edge of the fabric. Trim the lace so it ends just at the sole of the shoe on either side.
Once this dries, add another coat of Mod Podge over the top.
While that’s all drying, add pieces of lace to the back of the flat. If you have a little center piece like I do, you can add the lace on either side. If you don’t you can just put a pretty piece of lace down the center.
Cut a piece of fabric for the bow 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″. Fold the piece in half long ways, right sides together, and sew down the long edge with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Turn right side out and press with the seam in the center.
Feed the tube through your little rhinestone buckle and fold the ends to the back side. Sew the ends together and to the back of the bow by hand.
Add a good amount of E-6000 (or other very strong glue) to the back of the bow. Glue the bow to the front of your flat. Snag one of your hubby’s clamps to hold the bow in place.
Once everything is all dry – you’re all done!
Pop on your new shoes and take them for a spin!
What do you think? Would you give them a try?

These are absolutely adorable! Love your fabric choice, the bow and the polka dots!!
Adorable. Do you think this would work on canvas flats as well?
Hi Bev :) I don’t normally post about fashion on Craft Gossip, but these were too cute to resist, nice job! http://homeandgarden.craftgossip.com/boutique-style-flats-refashion/
Those are so cute! What pretty fabric you picked out.
Bev — these are great! You are so creative. I can’t wait to make me some. I’ll send you a picture when I do.
Amazing as always. I am running out to Walmart today!
OMG!! Such adorable shoes
WOWZA! these are awesome Bev!!! :)
They look great. What happens if they get wet? I’ve used Mod Podge in the past, but only where it won’t get damp.

Oh I love them! You are a genius. Guess shopping will be on my to do list now.
This is fabulous! I’ve got some clogs that need work. They’re too comfortable to trash but too boring looking to wear. Give me a day and that last part will change. Thank you!
This is going to make a fantastic Birthday present for my Girlfriend. I only see the one flaw in how do I top it next time.
Bev! These are the cutest thing EVER!! Love how adorable you were able to make these flats! Looks like we might be the same size… Want to bring them to SNAP?? ;) Loving the 360 degrees of cuteness.
Wow!! These shoes are fabuluous!! I love the fabric you chose and the lace trimming. So cute!!
Bravo! I <3 them!!
These are so fun!! :) Way cute-gives me ideas how to change up some of my shoes!
Such cuteness! You have such a great eye for mixing patterns, colors, modern stuff with vintage flair–I love it!
These are so pretty in fun! What an awesome way to dress up plain shoes. I LOVE the fabric you used for the toes! :)

So cute! Great job!
Super cute Bev. I’d also be curious to hear how they hold up. I’ve always wanted to do this sort of thing, but was skeptical about how they’d hold up. Thanks for sharing & linking to the Craftastic Monday party at Sew Can Do!
i love these! the fabric, the polka dots, lace trims and the tiny ribbon just go so well together!
Bev, this is the cutest shoe refashion that I have EVER seen! You are so creative and inspiring! I am totally going to be browsing the thrift stores and consignment sales with new eyes now.
Super cute Bev!!
These are very cute and look fairly inexpensive. Maybe I’ll have to expand my shoe collection to include something like this. Thanks for sharing! (Linked up from Lil’ Luna)
These shoes are too cute! I love the pink dots, the blue floral fabric, and the lace! I’d absolutely wear these! I’m pinning these to my shoe redo board!

So cute!
These are so cute! The pink polkadots especially are adorable
I loved running across your project at lil luna’s link party. I’ve been wanting to make matching shoes and purse for the longest time…I figured the purse would be easy enough, but the shoes? Now I can see it. Yay! This would work for heels too, do you think? Soooo cute. Thanks for the great idea. Lynaea @ EveryDayBloom.com
Just featured this on my Friday Finds!! So cute!!

They are absolutely drooling gorgeous!!
Wow! That’s quite a transformation!
Adorable! I’m so happy I found you. I have some little skill shoes from my son that I want to refashion for my daughter. I didn’t even think you could adhere the fabric with Mod Podge – is there anything that stuff doesn’t do?
SO cute! I am pinning :)
I am going to try this! My daughter has some shoes that the toes have worn off of…this looks perfect! I pinned it!
Adorable!!!!
What an awesome transformation! These are absolutely adorable!!!
These are so sweet! Love ‘um!
So cute!!!
Great project! you transformed the plain shoes to beautiful one! Thank you for sharing :)
So cute!!! Love unique shoes! Visiting from Roadkill rescue. So glad I did!
These are so cute! I am going to look for flats like this when I go to Walmart tomorrow. I love the polkadots, too! I can never spend too much on shoes because I end up scuffing them up or something and end up feeling guilty I spend so much on them. This is an awesome idea! And I’ll do some for my girls, too! My oldest constantly wants “fancy shoes” and this is such a cute way to do that!
What a creative way to up-grade shoes! I’ve seen fabric covered, paper covered, glitter, etc. but NOTHING quite as unique as this. Congrats on a wonderful tutorial!
Are you kidding?! So stinking cute! Wonderful job/idea.
Found you through Mod Podge Rocks & Cheltenham Road – these are so adorable, and I’m going to do this project this week!!
Wow. What a creative mind. You really took it to the fashion world. These shoes are beautiful. I enjoy reviewing your website. Thanks.
