It’s Week 5 of the Riley Blake Designs Block Challenge, and this week’s block is a special one for me—it’s my block! 💕
I’m so excited to share Ombre Dash, a sweet and slightly softer take on the classic Churn Dash block.

I’ve always loved the timeless look of a Churn Dash, but for this block I wanted to play with color placement in a way that felt a little more modern and gentle. By using an ombré-style layout, the block has movement and depth while still keeping that familiar, cozy Churn Dash feel we all love. It’s a great block for showing off favorite basics and subtle prints, and it works beautifully with low-volume backgrounds too.

One of my favorite things about this block is how versatile it is. You can lean into strong contrast for a bold look, or keep the values closer together for a softer, blended effect. It’s also a fun reminder of how much impact fabric placement can have—even with a very traditional block at its heart.
For my block this week I used the Dainty Daisy Vintage Pastels on cloud as the churn dash. For the stripes I used Sparkler Bleached Denim, Dainty Daisy Songbird, Dainty Daisy Stargazer, Dapple Dot Canyon Rose, Sparkler Apricot, and Blossom Peaches N Cream.

If you’re sewing along with the Block Challenge, I can’t wait to see your Ombre Dash blocks! Be sure to tag me or share them in the community—I love seeing all the different fabric combinations and interpretations each week. It’s just a blast seeing all the blocks come together too!
