It’s time for Week 9 of the Riley Blake Designs Block Challenge, and this week’s block is the beautiful Center Pieces block by Vicki McCarty!

I always love seeing how each designer interprets traditional quilt elements, and Vicki’s block has such a lovely balance of classic patchwork and crisp geometry. The layered shapes create a wonderful sense of movement, and the design really draws your eye right into the center.

For my version of the block, I used Dapple Dot Marsala, Sparkler Bleached Denim, and Blossom Peaches N Cream. I love how these soft peaches and rich marsala tones play together, and the pale blue adds the perfect little pop of contrast. The tiny prints in these fabrics add just enough texture to keep things interesting while still letting the block design shine.

One of my favorite things about this block is the way the center framing creates a little spotlight effect. It’s such a fun design element and will look amazing when all the blocks come together at the end of the challenge!
If you’re sewing along, you can download the Center Pieces block pattern from Riley Blake Designs and join in the fun. Each week brings a new designer and a new block, and it’s always inspiring to see how everyone interprets the designs.

I can’t wait to see your versions of this week’s block! Be sure to share them in the Riley Blake Block Challenge Facebook group.
Happy sewing!
