It has been such a blast hearing from those of you that have been inspired to take some time this week and pamper yourselves! I hope that you have found time for a facial, manicure or a pedicure or you will soon.
If you’ve done a pedicure this week or are planning one soon – I have the perfect thing for your pretty pampered feet!
Spa Slippers!
These lightweight little slippers have velcro closures and are perfect for a Spa afternoon! They are also soooo easy to do!
You’ll need:
1/3 yard fabric – I found this waffle weave fabric at Joann’s
1/4 yard Fusible Fleece
1/4 yard Heavyweight Interfacing
small piece of lace (optional)
velcro for slipper top
To make a pattern for the base of your slipper, grab a pair of flip-flops that fit you well. Trace the flip-flop onto a piece of paper.
Cut this piece out, then cut out a second piece with 1/2″ seam allowance added all around it.
I’ve also provided you with a pattern for the top portion of the slipper. Click here to download it.
This pattern should fit from a 6 – 8 slipper. If you need a larger top piece, just add length to the straight sides of both the top pieces.
With your larger slipper base pattern, cut 4 out of the cotton fabric. With the smaller slipper base, cut out 2 from fusible fleece and 2 from heavy weight interfacing.
For your top pieces, follow instructions on the patterns.
It helps to set them in sets – right side and left side.
Begin with two of the long top pieces. If you are adding lace, sew it on to the curved side of the long flap.
Trim your fusible fleece about 1/2″ all the way around. Iron it to the back side of the pieces you sewed the lace to.
On the other two long pieces, sew strips of the loop side of velcro.
(I’m all about using what you have, and I had narrow velcro – so I did two strips. You could definitely buy wide velcro and just do one strip.)
Place these pieces right sides together. So the lace is facing the velcro – for each long flap.
Sew around three sides with a 3/8″ seam allowance, leaving the straight side open.
Turn the flaps right side out. Topstitch around the seams 1/4″ away from the seam.
Repeat these steps for the small flap, except you will be sewing the hook portion of the velcro to the TOP of the flap.
Pin the flaps on either side of the top of a base slipper piece, just above the middle of the slipper. Sew the straight sides to the slipper base with a 1/4″ seam.
Iron the fleece pieces to the underside of the slipper bases you just sewed the flaps to.
Get ready to sew your slipper base together. Layer it so that the top (with the flaps) faces the right side of the other base piece. Lay the heavyweight interfacing on top of the fleece.
Sew around the base with a 3/8″ seam allowance, leaving a hole to turn the slipper right side out. You will just be catching the interfacing a little. You just want it sewn enough to hold it in place.
Make sure you fold the flaps in so that you don’t sew the wrong parts in the seam.
Turn the slippers right side out and press them flat.
Open up the flaps and lay them flat. Sew a 1/4″ topstitch all around the base of the slipper. Make you turn under the part that you left open for turning, and that it is sewn closed as you do the topstitch.
And that’s it!! Now you have super cute Spa Slippers to match your headband and scrubbie. Aren’t you stylish! :)
So I ask you all the time – what do you think?? That’s cause I really want to know.
What do you think? ;)
