Welcome to the Sew Our Stash edition for March!
If you’re new to Sew Our Stash, it’s a monthly challenge hosted by Marissa from Rae Gun Ramblings and myself – to challenge ourselves to make at least one thing each month to wear for ourselves! WE also wanted to set up the challenge to use up our stash – and this month I’ve done just that! I’ve had this fabric and pattern in my stash forever but hadn’t thought of putting them together until this month. I had so much fun with this one!
For the pattern I used Simplicity 1693. I made version C without the elastic waist, and I added in the collar.
I had planned on adding the elastic, to give it a peplum look, but I didn’t measure the length ahead of time and the top is too short for it to look right. I’ll definitely be making it again though and adding some length so I can do the elastic waist!
The fabric is this super darling retro kitty print I found at Jo-Ann stores! It’s a semi-sheer rayon so I’ll have to wear a tank under it but it will be so nice and cool for summer.
The back has a simple button closure at the neck so I didn’t have to mess with button holes or zippers. The whole thing went together in just a couple of hours. So nice.
I thought it needed something else so I added a little velvet bow at the collar. I just pinned it in place so I can remove it before washing. Or I can change it up with a different color if I want to!
I love how it turned out!
How did you do this month? Were you able to sew anything for yourself? I’d love to hear about it – tell us all about it in the comments!
Make sure you go visit Marissa too, to see what she sewed this month!

That is really cute, Bev! The kitten print is purrfect (sorry; couldn’t resist!). I’d not seen that pattern until now; might have to get one for myself.

It is absolutely adorable! I love everything about it and you were right about adding the velvet bow. I envy you for sewing for yourself each month. I’ve been too involved outside the home or sewing for grandluvs. But this inspires me.

Wow! I love the style of the shirt and pattern of the fabric! Another keeper, I must say.

I’m sure a lot will say this, but that cat fabric is so incredibly cute! I would have bought some too without knowing what to do with it. :) Love how the shirt came out, the type of collar and in black really paired well with the kittens!

Simply adorable top made with whimsy fabric topped with the perrrfect collar. Great choices ~
The collar is the what turns this top from cute to; ” I gotta have one too! ” Congrats, another great project.

I just LOVE this retro kitten top and I would love to try to be able to make one
for myself to wear if I ever get really good at using a sewing machine. If I wore it
out in public I’d probably get a lot of compliments on it.
