It’s time for the Sew Our Stash update for August!!
I am so glad that Marissa from Rae Gun Ramblings and I are doing this challenge! It really forces me to get out of my comfort (lazy) zone and sew something for myself! And every month I have grand plans to sew up a bunch of stuff, and every month I get so caught up in other things that I don’t get as much done as I want! But the monthly posts force me to at least do something. Better than nothing right?!
So here’s what I have for the month! I decided to dive into the indie pattern companies this month and I’m so happy with both these pattern makers!
I started off with the Kimono Dress from Pattern Runway.
I fell in love with this fabric when we had Fabric Weekend in LA back in May. I knew I wanted to make a simple dress that would really show off the pretty fabric. This pattern is perfect!
The pattern is super simple to sew and it goes together really fast. The sizing was good also!
I also made up what is maybe my new favorite top!
It’s the Datura Top from Deer&Doe and I am soooooo in love. It’s fast, easy, and it has a sweet little collar. What’s not to love??
I think I’m going to make up a bunch of these with different variations. They have a cute style with little cut out’s at the neck. I might try different hems and for sure mix up different prints. It’s going to be a staple, I can tell.
Plus I can put a cute sweater of this and wear it year round. Win win!
But look at me being all brave and taking a photo without a sweater. ;)
Not too bad for the month – a new top and new dress!
I have some fun things already in the works for next month too! I’m soooo excited about them.
Make sure you head over to Marissa’s place and check out what she made this month!! You will love it!
So what do you think?
Just a little note: Please be kind in your comments or choose not to comment if you can’t. I fully realize that I am not super young or super-model svelte. Well meaning but rude comments pointing out those obvious facts and giving advice about how to rectify the situation will be deleted. And I will be irritated with you all day. And possibly badmouth you to my family. Thanks! Big kisses and hugs to all the rest of you. ;)

I love them! I’m going to have to look at the tank pattern. It’s super cute and you are right about being able to wear it year round. It’s perfect!

Wow, I would certainly hope no one would make rude comments! I gotta tell you the first thing I thought was, “wow, she looks fantastic!” So I was surpsrised by your note, but I have to assume experience has made you have to do that. How sad that people think it is okay to criticize one another that way. Anyway, you look beautiful and both the dress and the top are gorgeous. I would love to have that top in a bunch of colors/patterns myself! Great job!

I wasn’t going to comment UNTIL I read the end of your post, and then I HAD to. I’m thankful for your pictures. Your patterns show what will look like on MOST people. I think your pieces look great, and so do you. Even though I don’t know you, I’m proud of you. Just sayin’.
Rebecca says
I love both pieces, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE you as a model!! I don’t have the perfect body either, who does?
I’m so sad that we live in a world where you have to post a comment qualifier like that. Shame on those meanies.
Nancy says
I love the dress and the top. I especially love the collar on the top. You mentioned it was easy. I may give it a go! I also waned to say that I love the sandals you wore with both outfits!
Meg says
You are the PERFECT model!! You are as beautiful on the inside too :)
Plus, your projects are awesome (which is only a bonus since knowing you is the prize) :)
Love the outfits! Great job!!

What a gorgeous dress! The top is beautiful, too! I wish I could sew clothes… maybe I will give it a try again someday. All those colors are very becoming on you (and please, let me join you in throwing eggs at those who actually SPEND TIME typing rude stuf!!!). :-)

Hi there! Wow… every time you bust out one of your creations, I start totally envying your sewing skills! I don’t even have a machine at present as its in storage cross country. lol Really love the dress, and it has so many possibilities with just change of fabric. You’re so clever, I’ll bet you could even figure out a way to do a reversible one. ;) I really really dig the top, though, and can see why its become your fave! The peterpan collar is darling! I’d absolutely love that lengthened into an above knee dress, so it would be like a tunic/empire style look, loose at the waist. With a straight across hem, and a little rustic lace on the edges, would be darling! Then you could wear it alone or over jeans for fun. And don’t let anyone give you hassle about your figure! I have body issues myself, so I know its no fun. Funny cause we are basically identical body doubles, same shape in all the same places. lol My boyfriend loves my figure, and I kinda think that’s what matters, so there ya go. Keep up the gorgeous creations!
Wishing you creative days!

You are gorgeous! I am in love with that top and need to go purchase the pattern ASAP – thanks for feeding my addiction ;-)

Love the cute top! I think it’s one of the best versions I’ve seen done with that pattern, very flattering :)

Hi Love the top paired with your floral shoes. Wish I sewed. It’s good to see a real person modeling their own creations , don’t let the haters out there ruin your day.

I read your blog all the time. I was looking at your dress and was thinking I would love to have it in a shirt. I am one of those readers who don’t comment that often. I read so many blogs that I wouldn’t get thru half if I commented all the time. Much less clean the house and feed my husband. I only comment when something really hits me, and your blog did. There are some people in this world who are only happy by tearing people down. I have a few in my life who I ignore as much as possible but it’s a little hard when they are right in your face. Please try to ignore them as 98% of us out here appreciate your modeling skills and your wonderful self. Those few others will take the time to belittle anyone to make themselves feel better. I think they must have a very sad life.

Lovely Bev! I peeked earlier but just ad a chance to pop over now. The dress-absolute staple! Love it for fall too. What a fun top too!

Bev, when I started reading today’s edition of your blog and see you modeling…I’m thinking WOW…she looks fabulous in that dress – wouldn’t I love to look that good! We ALL have ‘figure issues’ of some type or another. I think it’s wonderful that you’re modeling your own creations! I LOVE the top! I see why it’s your new favorite. I might have to try it. I’m a beginner’s beginner as far as sewing us concerned. LOVE the fabric of your dress – it really looks fantastic on you!
Kimberlee says
Absolute favorite top!!! I want one just like that! And, when you make such gorgeous clothes like that, they’re so flattering no one notices the “imperfect figure.” It is hard to get over having to model what we make isn’t it? I hate doing selfies, but you get over it by being so proud of your creations. :) I made my 1st dress this month & love it so much, that’s the only reason I got brave to share it with my IG peeps. ;) Can’t wait to see what you’ll sew next!!
Jeifner says
That dress turned out great and I love the shirt, simple flattering cut with very cute details. Thanks for the pattern name. I was kind of shocked that people might criticize your modeling. I’m always so proud and admiring of people that will model their clothes. It’s not easy to do.
Melissa says
I WANT THAT DATURA TOP!
Leslie says
I love the dress AND the top! Would you mind sharing (by email if you prefer) what size you made each of them? If I looked like you, I’d be very happy!
Hugs, Leslie

Oh bev. I love them both so so much. They fit you perfectly.

Hi Bev. I think you are just too cute modeling your new clothes. I love that dress. Very nice. And the top is just plain cute. I always admire your talents. Thanks so much for sharing your talents and your sense of humor.
Jaime Jenkins says
That dress looks really pretty with your hair. And the top is cute! And so you. :)

Bev, I love the dress–fabric choice is perfect for a simple (fast-to-sew!) design; it looks great on you and begs me to make one for myself. I need to make a dress to wear under a peplum jacket that is hard to coordinate (odd color with lace overlay on lapels); I think I just found the perfect pattern for it! I had not heard of Pattern Runway patterns before, so I’ve got to go check out all their pretties now. The top is cute, too. I know just what you mean about those good intentions; good for you for getting two things made this month!

I love both outfits you made Bev! Just spent some time going through your old tutirials and I am so blown away by your lovely projects! I just signed up for your newsletter too.

I think I have made this comment before but I follow your blog and have never made anything you have made because you are way out of my league. I just enjoy your posts and am always in awe at what you make. I think you look great and the clothing is beautiful. I especially LOve the top; its adorable. Great job as always!
