Have you come across Porch.com yet? It’s a great website full of all sorts of DIY inspiration and fun tutorials!
I recently had the fun opportunity of doing a little interview with them! It’s part of a series they run called On The Front Porch, it’s a great way to get to know a little more about your favorite bloggers!
They divide up the interview in a fun way – half of it is posted over at Porch.com and half is posted here! So here is a little more about me!
If your life were a song, what would it be?
My first thought was Louis Armstrong’s, “What a Wonderful World” (fabulous song) but I also think there’s a lot of “Crazy Life” and some “Every Body Wants to Be a Cat” too. The cats kind of rule the roost around here.
Pinterest or Facebook?
I love Pinterest for all the inspiration but I love Facebook for the interaction. It’s so fun to post a project on Facebook I’ve made or found and see what everyone thinks of it!
If your walls could only be painted one color for the rest of your life, what would they be and why?
I’d have to pick white! Which is crazy considering that for so long I lived in a rental house with white walls and hated that I couldn’t paint. But now I’m loving the clean bright look – and you can always dress it up with all sorts of color on the walls! Which I totally do. :)
What are you exceptionally good at? (Permission to brag)
It’s hard for me to brag – I think it’s that introverted nature. :) But it’s really easy for me to see how things are made, and how to recreate them. I started out my blog doing a lot of knockoffs, which was so fun. It also helped my develop my style, I spent I lot of time looking for things I liked and making my own versions of them. I don’t do them very often anymore since I’m really loving making my own projects, but I still can’t resist the occasional Anthropologie knockoff.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve collected?
I used to collect flamingos in college! That is actually what inspired my blog name. I don’t have much of that collection anymore, though it’s growing again thanks to sweet friends who send me all sorts of flamingo goodness!
Show us your best project for a DIY beginner!
I love projects with a vintage vibe, so one of my favorites is this Giant USA Map Hoop Art! It’s big and colorful and super easy to make – there is no sewing involved! You can customize it too with places you’ve lived or traveled. It’s a great stash buster too!
What’s a home trend you hope doesn’t exist in 100 years?
That’s a tough question for me, because I strongly feel that your home should be a reflection of what you love. So what works for me wouldn’t work for someone else, and vice versa! And that’s ok – that’s why it’s mine. :) So hopefully in 100 years everyone’s home will be super individual and a way to express our own style and taste!
