So one of the goals I set for myself this year was to share a little more “me” with you guys.
To be honest I’m a fairly shy person. So putting myself out there isn’t so easy.
And if you consider that I pretty much almost delete every “crafty” post I write (and more than almost sometimes) because I reread and debate and second guess what I’ve written, take that into account here and be kind. ;)
Why would you want to know about me anyway? I don’t know. Maybe you don’t. :)
But maybe you do a little?
So I’m starting off with a few of my Guilty Pleasures.
These are my go-to, comfort, indulgent things. Ready?
This first one is fairly cliche’ – but there is nothing quite like a bar of chocolate to brighten your day.
Now – I’m not a chocolate snob.
If the car has broken down and the kids need to be picked up and the cat has puked all over the carpet and it is “that time of month”, any old candy bar will do as a remedy for insanity.
But if I’m really going to be indulgent – this is what I go for.
Ok. First of all, it’s Dark Chocolate – which is just better.
And the combination is amazing. It’s just the right blend of salty and sweet.
I love this show.
It makes me cry almost every week.
All these people working through their struggles and conquering them and acheiving transformations.
But I will admit when they accuse people of eating ice cream and watching the show, that I feel guilty.
And go put my ice cream bowl away.
While I’m confessing . . .
Yes. I watch American Idol.
and yes. I like the new judges better.
There. I said it.
I’m dating myself here but . .
Yep – I’m a child of the 80’s. So specifially – I love 80’s music and movies.
I know “Pretty in Pink” is ridiculous. And a big part of me wishes that she’d stayed with Ducky.
I don’t think Blaine is going to stick with her for the long haul.
But I love that movie. And when they play the song at the end and she runs out to the parking lot after him? **Sigh**
Have you actually tried to play Robin Hood Bingo? Real bingo? In a *gasp* casino?
We meet some friends from AZ in Vegas occasionally. We’re not party animals – but we do love a good game of bingo. (That sounds so weird)
We are usually the youngest people in the room (by a lot sometimes) but it’s still a blast!
Even when we don’t win.
I love it so much that on our family vacation a couple years we had a big bingo tournament with the family. We had cards, daubers and even prizes! It was great.
Do you have Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf’s near you? I have one in the my grocery store.
This winter I stumbled across this little treat:
Winter Dream Tea Latte. Oh. My. Gosh.
Apparently this is a seasonal drink with them, so I don’t know if you can still get it. But holy cow this thing is good.
I have no idea how many calories are in it, and I don’t want to know.
I’m seriously addicted and going through withdrawals (our store doesn’t have them any more). Maybe it’s a good thing.
Hubby was probably wondering why I was going to the store every other day.
“Honey – I’m heading to the store. We’re out of . . . head cheese?
Be right back!”
Ok. Now I’m mortified.
Help me out – what are your guilty pleasures??
Mocha’s?
Real Housewives of …where ever??
Justin Beiber???
Come on.
Don’t let me hang out here all by myself!
Tabitha says
I love that Sea Salt Chocolate too! “The Wedding Singer” and my adult kool-aid, White Zinfandel Wine are both guilty pleasures too. Thanks for sharing–it’s hard to do!
Ingrid says
ohhhhhhh, i have a bar of that lindt dark chocolate with sea salt right now… and i just finished another one. i had two on hand. what? it’s been that kind of week, flu, non-stop rain…. the uszh (as in usual)
so my guilty pleasures are that lindt chocolate, ALL of the real housewives shows and the kardashians and shortening words that don’t need shortening, example… “what’s up? oh, the uszh” (as in the usual) or “how was your day? pretty dec” (as in decent) probably incredibly annoying, but i do it. all. the. time.
Ingrid says
oh and my tassimo coffee machine makes these awesome cappucinos that i am addicted to… luckily they come in fat free that you can buy at bed, bath and beyond and i drink them pretty much at least once a day… and usually with some of that sea salt chocolate!
Karen says
I haven’t seen or tried the Sea Salt Lindt chocolate, but I do love their 70% dark, and even their 90% dark is good in small doses.
The tea latte sounds fabulous. I usually like plain black or green tea, but absolutely LOVE the LondonFog tea from The Second Cup ( specialty tea/coffee cafe here in Canada–not sure if they have them in the USA). Hmmm…..I may need to go out for some “head cheese” now, too! LOL
I think we’ve all got at least one reality show that we can’t stop watching for one reason or another. I love Survivor, and am always horrified at some of the people they find for the show, but I can’t stop watching it. ;>)
K says
Ooo, guilty pleasures …. I sometimes buy a lil stash of chocolate (preferably cadburys) & hide it for when I’m alone crafting. I drink FAR to much Pepsi, to the point that I will hide the last bottle to make sure I can drink bits of it until I get the chance to buy some more & my OH cant drink it all….. Reading this I think I have food issues!
Poundland is definately a guilty pleasure, I pop in most days that I’m shopping & walk out with at least 3 items even if I didnt actually go in for them.
Dont delete this hun, its nice to have a peak at the person behind the flamingo ;-)
Meg says
OMGoodness! I’ve had that chocolate bar (or several of that chocolate bar…whatevs) and if you like that you will love the dark chocolate sea salt caramels from Whole Foods. Run. Don’t walk.
These posts are great. Don’t delete please :D
Dawn says
love pretty in pink-it was on nick at nite recently and i missed it!!! wahhh! my 10 yr old just looked at me like i was crazy everytime the commercial was on and i said i wanted to watch it!
my guilty pleasures….peanut m&m’s, a bowl of ice cream at night after the kids go to bed, say yes to the dress and glee, carmelized onion pizza….again, at night, after the kids go to bed :) and coffee!
Erin @ Crafts & Sutch says
I’m a child of the 80’s too and I’m pretty sure I know every line to all the 80’s classics! :) They are just iconic and always make me feel better when I sit down to watch them. I watch The Biggest Loser too and I don’t feel bad about eating horribly fattening food while watching it. :)
My guilty pleasures are: reality TV shows (Housewives…no Orange County or Atlanta, but I like the others, American Idol, Project Runway, etc.), I’m on a huge cupcake kick right now, popping into Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, or a thrift shop when I have nothing to buy, and young adult novels. :)
I’m sure I have a million more, but that’s what I can come up with on the spot. :)
Michele @ The Scrap Shoppe says
Love these insights! I *love* the movies of the 80’s… Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles. *sigh* Lots of love there. And, ok, I might *ocassionally* watch the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills/Atlanta/New York if I see that its on. {but that will be our little secret!} And while we’re talking about things I *ocassionally* do… I might also sneak little bites frosting if we have an open container in the fridge…
Admitted Fabricaholic says
Used to be Gossip Girl – I know I know – horrible! But my husband was traveling all of the time for work and I had the evenings to myself with free reign of the remote. He hasn’t traveled in a few months now – and I am in the dark with it. *Sigh, probably better this way. Lol
the cape on the corner says
this reminds me i missed american idol last night! oh no! i LOVE the auditions, they are my guilty pleasure. and i am super impressed with the comraderie between the judges…i thought it was going to be very weird!
my food guilty pleasure-gummy worms and swedish fish! fun post!
Carla says
guilty pleasures…. a 3rd trip to the bag of Oreos, dancing in the mirror, anything fried or chocolate covered, and all of “Coming to America” but most specifically, dancing along to the the beginning of the wedding scene with all the tribal dancers. Love it! I mean really, really love it!! I did silent bingo once and that was a blast, so I imagine the kind where you shout out BINGO! is even more fun sometimes!
(And really, we like these sharing posts…helps us remember that there are REAL people behind the blogs!!)
Kei @ Unfortunately Oh says
Ooh Lindt chocolate is absolutely divine! Haven’t tried the sea salt one though!
A major guilty pleasure for me is Shakeaway’s ‘Selection Box’ milkshake, served hot. It’s only available during the Christmas season and contains half a dozen bits of different chocolate bars…probably has a month of calories in one regular-sized cup but who cares, it’s good! Also charity shops and poundland/the 99p store. Can’t resist popping in to see what goodies I can find!
It’s a really good idea of yours to post some things about yourself :) Nice to know about the person making all the fab posts!
Jessica says
Well I love a big bowl of pasta and cheese. I don’t care if it’s easy Mac or gourmet parmesan. I love the tv show Friends…and (gulp) America’s next top model…..and Taylor Swift…..am I really 28? Sometimes I still feel 19.
Pam says
Oh, a nearly anonymous confession/craft site! As another child of the 80’s, I love Rick Astley songs, drives my husband crazy. I love Glee and sci fi shows (only happy ones, though, nothing too dark). I sometimes buy really decadent food and hide it in a Slim Fast box in my fridge. I love the homemade potato chips covered in blue cheese dressing and more melty cheese on top from the restaurant down the road.
Kathleen Weber says
Thanks for another great post! You made me smile.
Ready???
1. I am addicted to Starbucks Mocha Frappachino’s and buy them by the case.
2. I am a HUGE Survivor freak. Do NOT call my house during the show, I won’t answer. :)
3. Favorite Movie – Ghost. I am a sucker for love stories and if I can get a really good cry on the better!
jacki says
Yeah, I’m a Real Housewives of Wherever fan… And also a fan of The Biggest Loser! As far as eating ice cream while you watch it? Yeah, that’s me too. This week I had a milkshake while I watched! But I’m pregnant, so that’s an excuse, right? I adore cheese and sweets way too much. And yes, I also love Bingo, though if I’m in an actual casino I can’t pull myself away from the roulette table. :)
Lori Story says
I love reading your post and look forward to what you will share next.
My favorite things are… White Chocolate Moca from Starbucks (the closest is 45 miles), I love to watch the Coal Miners Daughter & The Little Mermaid and my favorite TV is The Amazing Race and 20 Kids & counting (pretty crazy, I think).
Blessings, Lori
The Answer Is Chocolate says
Love this! Obviously, you know I LOVE anything chocolate but here’s something you might not guess…I don’t like hot chocolate or chocolate milk but I love Starbucks Mochas ( not just anyone’s) especially iced. Love crime and medical / legal novels ( James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, John Grisham), will watch Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network movies over and over and over. Fav TV shows are Criminal Minds, Modern Family, The Good Wife and L&O SVU.
Christine says
Oooh–fun! I am also a child of the 80’s…I heart The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles (what’s happening hot stuff!) Pretty in Pink (even though Blaine is a bit of a weasel). I love reading Stephen King books over and over and over again. I love french vanilla ice cream with Hershey’s Dark Syrup. Excellent post Bev–excellent!!
Bree says
Well, it WAS Rock of Love, but then Brett Michaels had to go & get himself engaged…booo… ;)
Currently though? I’m not sure, probably just my still-daily Diet Dr. Pepper. I told hubby I’d quit (or at least cut back!) when I got pregnant. And I totally did for a couple weeks! But then this exhaustion set it, and then the headaches & the doctor actually TOLD me to drink it if it helps, so I’m back to one daily. Which, technically, is a cut back from my pre-pregnancy two daily, but hubby didn’t know about that either. I’m such a rebel. :)
Holly L says
Love this sneak peek into your life! My guilty pleasure is nonfat no sugar added mochas from the coffee bean…but since the closest one is in Pismo Beach, I have the powder shipped to me and when we drive down my hubby knows to stop at every CBTL! I also love bad reality TV (and good too) like Real Housewives. Let’s meet up for some CBTL and I will bring the VHS copies of Pretty in Pink and Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire!
Melanna says
I watch the Bachelor. I watched the first season and the first bachelorette and then didn’t watch again until a few years ago when my friend told me about a website (www.ihategreenbeans.com) where she recaps each episode. It cracks me up and is my other guilty pleasure.
I also keep stashes of chocolate that I get for “baking” but totally snack on.
Christine says
oh, I wanted to try that Lindt sea salt bar but I can’t. Allergies. I think it has dairy in it. But I do eat 1/2 bar every night of the Trader Joe’s dark chocolate bar (in the red wrapper). Often with a glass of red wine. Yummy. On Saturday night this might actually be my dinner. I love Two and a Half Men because Ducky is in it :-)
Tiffany @anotherpieinthesky.com says
So glad you shared more of yourself with us! Totally made me smile! My guilty pleasures are: French Vanilla International Coffee, Starbucks Double Shot Coffee Energy Drink, Mtn. Dew, Doritos, Greys Anatomy, Shameless, Weeds, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, Breaking Bad. I haven’t watched American Idol since Season 3….except to see Carrie Underwood win. I have watched this season so far…and I like these judges much, much, much better! There. I said it, too! :)
Andi says
So I am still wondering why you would be mortified? I had a rat tail. Feel better? And thanks for the info on the dark chocolate…that is what my life has been missing! Can’t wait to try it! I hope you continue to share stuff about yourself. I think you are awesome and I’m pretty sure everyone else does too! Oh and I was a child of the 80s too…love all things 80s.
Caroline says
My guilty pleasures : French cheese on fresh baguette, Swiss chocolate (the darker the better), “Chuck”, movies with Sean Connery or Harrisson Ford, reading in the bathtub.
Chris says
I, for one, am very glad you don’t delete your posts! I really enjoy your blog!
Steph says
Yay fellow 80s girl…one of many reasons you’re like totally awesome.
Some of my guilty pleasures are magazines (I subscribe to about 10 of them, mostly fashion or decor), reading chick lit, soda (so bad!), and Two-bite cinnamon rolls from Whole Foods (and shopping there in general…their veggies are so pretty!). As for TV, I love Project Runway, Top Chef and Cougartown. And yes, John Hughes films, plus Office Space will always halt my channel surfing any day.
So great to get to know you…I’m a little timid when it comes to sharing this stuff too and it looks like you’ve helped a lot of us come out of our shells!
kara says
First of all…love that you are sharing more about you :)
Second of all…Pretty in Pink is my all time favorite movie!! Still love it…
Third of all…maybe you should have a “guilty pleasures” linky party……

CWTV shows! I am too old to be watching the Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl but I can not resist.
Shopping at Trader Joes. I just love it and it makes me happy to go even if its a 15-20 minute drive!
Starbucks everything. Im obsessed, I would go everyday if it wasn’t so overpriced!
And finally my true love Polo Ralph Lauren. I am incapable of not buying Polo dresses for our daughters. That pony pulls me in every time! LOVE it!
Michelle says
My guilty pleasures…Fundraising Chocolate Bars with Almonds. Can’t help it…My students sell them and of course they get business from me! I also am a HUGE fan of Friday Night Lights (the TV series)..season finale was this week–What am I going to do?! I love anything sweet and gummy (even gummy vitamins!) I am embarrassed to say that I crave those candy circus peanuts–reminds me of being a kid I guess!
Stephanie Hirsch says
First off, that chocolate looks delicious, and I WANT IT! I too, love American Idol…and I was hesitant about the new judges, but they have a chemistry, and they are hilarious, I love Steven Tyler…JLo seems just so REAL to me, who would have thought? I definitely have a new appreciation for her. So yes, I like them better…oops, I said too, the Simon Cowellites are going to sound their alarms! I also LOVE The Biggest Loser, it doesn’t make me cry, but I’m not a crier, it does make my heart ache, and makes me want to get on my clothes hanger…er…ummm…treadmill. I also like The Secret Life of the American Teen…because I’m a teen at heart?? I don’t know, but its good. I don’t like “adult” novels…I would much rather read a teen novel (Twilight is a fav). Ummm…oh, I am not a sappy person, but my favorite movie of all time is Moulin Rouge…I am secretly in love with Ewan McGregor. I love playing bingo, but have never been able to go to a real bingo house. My husband won’t let me, so I can’t wait until I hit my 60’s and can go freely, ha! =) Seriously, I can’t find anyone who will go with me, but its fun to play!
No need to be mortified, there are so many things that we all have our guilty pleasures over. I don’t consider myself a classy person, but I’m real, and so are you. Thank you for sharing more about yourself! =)
Amy says
Hahahaha LOVE this post! I love P&P too! And all the other ridiculously sickening movies of the 80’s :) I am such a closet bingo lover! The only time I get to play is at firehall ‘carnivals’ in the summer. I swear everything I put in my mouth is a guilty pleasure but chocolate and Starbucks coffees are probably my biggest two. And my absolute greatest guilty pleasure is blogging and crafting when I should be cleaning the house :) Thanks so much for the fun post!!

I love, Love your site. Don’t know how I stumbled upon it, but am sure glad I did. I am very new to the world of blogging and have gotten completely addicited. I also Love Flamingoes, probably why I started reading your emails. I am in the process of designing a Flamingo quilt. So Kitch. I am a product of the late, late 60’s. So am probably one of your oldest followers, but I am really a big kid at heart. I am totally addicted to 24oz cold, blended Mochas at the stand in our very little town. I am also a very big fan of American Idol and love the new judges, I agree that Jennifer really seems like a genuinely nice person and amazed at how much I like Stephen. I have always loved his music.
I haven’t sewn clothes for years but have made a lot of the stuff on your site. You Go Girl. I think you do a great job and look forward to seeing what you are up to. Thanks for your hard work. This is the first time I have ever left a comment anywhere. Keep up the great work.
Jill says
I love the Biggest Loser too! Other guilty pleasures? Gummy candies and Hawkins cheesies. I think they’re only available in Canada though. They’re the best!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheezies
Rissa says
I just LOVE reading these sorts of things about other people. One of MY guilty pleasures is being nosy!! I don’t pass stuff on, but I love to hear ;) My others are #1 – chocolate!! I used to say I like any and all chocolate, but then I tried chilli chocolate and felt sick :( So disappointing! I’m not brave enough to try the salty one now! My other guilty pleasures are girly music (Nora Jones <3), girly movies (Pride & Prejudice <3) and fantasy novels that have a good dose of romance (Juliette Marillier <3) Those things ALWAYS make me feel better when I need a pick-me-up! Or cuddling one of my pets – they should probably go on the guilty pleasures list too, since I rent and am a student but spend most of my money on my fur family ;) They get what they need before we get groceries, LOL!
I <3 your blog!
Alison says
Oh, Bev, now I KNOW we’d get along! Chocolate and Biggest Loser… sometimes together at the same time! This is fun–share more, please!
