For a long time mixing and matching colors in my house was tough for me. I even wrote a post about it a couple of years ago.
But since then, I’ve been playing with adding some more things (and taking some away) and I feel a little more confident about how to put things together!
So here’s my big not-so-secret plan.
I’ve chosen a couple of colors as the “Main” colors in the house. (gray and turquoise) And then in different rooms, I have brought in “highlight” colors. Colors that differentiate the rooms a bit, and allow me to play with different colors, but throughout the house there is common color palette. I think it ties it all together a little more! It also makes it easier to blend together patterns. If there are coordinating colors running throughout, you can add in chevron and flowers and everybody gets along!
I’ve been changing things up around here and I feel like it’s finally coming together in a way that I like! It’s amazing how much getting your color and style a little more established makes it easier to decorate! Plus for me – it feels a lot more like “home”.
In our TV Room, I’ve found some things that I love that tie together my color scheme. I’ll be sharing more with you next week – but just to give you an example, here’s a photo of my Dresser turned Entertainment Center.
I’m really focusing on turquoise in this room. Which you might be able to tell from the bright color on the TV stand! lol. But I’ve also pulled in the gray with my curtains and that cool Mirror from Target over the TV, and pops of yellow in the Target vases. The rug is a light gray/blue, and I’m adding more turquoise prints to the room as well – like my Mod podged Monograms!
I found a few other things at Target that are on my “Wish List” – I think the mix of colors and patterns would look great in this room!
I’m kind of in love with that yarn wrapped gazelle. I need him for my very own.
I’ll show you more things going on in the room next week – including the artwork, the Stencilled clock in its natural habitat – plus the fabric I’m going to recover my chair with! Eek!
I’d love to know – how do you blend colors and patterns in your home?
It’s Time for Springtime.
