We are on Week 3 of our fun patriotic sew along! This week we are sewing the Heartland Quilt Along Flag Blocks – these sweet wavy flags are so easy to sew up!
If you are new to this sew along, we are sewing my Heartland Quilt together. It’s such a fast and fun quilt to sew with cute waving flags that have fussy cut stars and a flying geese row that separates the flags. You can find the other weeks in the sew along here:
- Week 1 – Heartland Sew Along Kickoff
- Week 2 – Heartland Sew Along Star Blocks
This week, we will sew together the striped sections and add our cute fussy-cut stars to create the flag quilt blocks. I’ll give tips in this week’s video on cutting out those stripes to maintain the flag block’s wavy look and on sewing them together.
HEARTLAND SEW ALONG FLAG BLOCKS
I’m sewing up the quilt with my Sweet Freedom fabrics and using my Stargazer color of Dainty Daisy as the background. You can join me live for this week’s video on YouTube at 2 pm CT, or you can check out the video anytime after that. All the sew along videos will be available for you to watch at any time so feel free to sew along at your own speed!
It is not too late to join in with this fun sew along! You can find Sweet Freedom fabrics and Heartland Kits in stores here. You can also pick up the pattern in my shop and join in with any fabrics you’d like.
Norma says
cute pattern but the USA Flag does not have blue stripes and the stripe under the stars is White, the flag starts with a red stripe ends with a red stripe,
Cheryl says
Norma, the blue on this block is the “background”. That little bit of background on the flag block gives the flag its “waving” motion. Artistic license says this is NOT intended to be a replica of the American flag. Note the 7 stripes rather than 13. Note the single star rather than 50.
