I just love making up easy and cute banners for parties or even just for everyday! They are so fast to sew up and add such fun colors and style to any display, mantel or even to your backyard fence. Bandanas are so summery to me, so I thought it would be fun to make up a summery DIY bandana bunting – in these cheery, bright colors and all decorated with a little pom pom trim. Because everything is cuter with pom poms.
This DIY bandana bunting would be a great backdrop for a pool party or cookout too! It’s so quick to put together. Just cut up a few bandanas and sew them together with the trim. I think the whole thing could be done in a half hour.
I had to bring my DIY bandana bunting out and hang it on our sweet horse fencing. I love the bright colors against the white of the fence!
So let’s get started!
Supplies needed to make your own DIY bandanna bunting:
- 5 Bandanas – I used:
- 2.5 Yards of Pom Pom or Other Trim
- Ribbon for Ties
Begin by cutting a 9″ triangle out of one corner of the bandana.
Measure in 3 1/2″ for each top point and trim off each corner. The piece should now measure about 11″ across.
Using the center bottom point as a guide, fold each side in and overlap them, so that the folded bandana piece measures 4 1/2″ across. Press folds in place.
Using this piece as a cutting guide, cut out three sections from each of your bandanas. I used the three corners that did not have the copywrite/writing on the corner. Press them into shape, you should have 15 folded pennant pieces when you are through.
Cut a length of trim that is about 85 inches long. Sew the trim along the tops of the pennant pieces, sewing through all the layers as you go. Leave about an inch between pennants.
Cut two 18″ lengths of ribbon. Place the end of the ribbon on the underside of each end of the pennant, overlapping about 1″. Sew the ribbon in place.
That finishes the bunting off! Tie little bows in each end and hang your DIY bandana bunting wherever you want a little color and fun!
I hope you give it a try! I’d love for you to post any photos to my Facebook wall if you make one.
