I have a fun new Necklace project for you today! This DIY Wood and Lace Pendant Necklace is sooo easy to make and it takes hardly any time at all. It is such a great way to just show off some pretty lace! It would be perfect for using a bit of damaged vintage lace or a piece from a special dress.
The lace is preserved in this wood pendant by Dimensional Magic. If you’ve never used it before it is a Mod Podge product that you can use to add a resin like coating to a small project. It is the perfect way to seal a project like this so you don’t have to worry about the lace turning yellow over time or fraying!
It’s better than a resin though – you don’t have to mix it and it’s water based. So you can clean it up easily with soap and water. It’s really simple to use!
DIY Wood and Lace Pendant Necklace Tutorial
Materials:
- Dimensional Magic
- Wood Bezel
- Lace Piece
- Pearl
- Bail
- Necklace Chain and Closure
- Glue (I used e-6000)
Instructions:
Begin by choosing a lace that fits well in your bezel. You want it to have a good contrast in color with the bezel so it shows up well after you add the Dimensional Magic.
Cut out a segment of the lace so there are no loose edges.
Place the lace in the center of the bezel. Cover the entire area with the Dimensional Magic. If you end up with a bubble, add water to your finger and touch the bubble. It should disappear. Once you have the surface covered, place the pearl on top. The Dimensional Magic will hold the pearl in place and seal it to the lace.
Let the Dimensional Magic dry according to the package directions – at least 3 hours. Glue a bail to the back of the wood bezel.
Add a chain and closure through the bail. And you’re all done! Wouldn’t this be a great gift too?
I have a fun DIY ring made with Dimensional Magic in my book 30 Minute Jewelry too! You can find it at Amazon and other booksellers – it has tons of easy and quick projects like this in it.
Have you ever used Dimensional Magic? If so, what did you make?
