My Favorite homemade gift is whatever my kids make me because they give it from the heart.
I was thrilled when my mom crocheted a tote bag for me, because I wanted a specific one but I can’t crochet to save my life. It really meant a lot, because I know she had to have spent a lot of time on it. :)

The best handmade gifts I ever received were the baby blankets my step mom made my children. All three love them and use them daily!

There have been so many, I don’t think I could pick an all time favorite! I do have a most thoughtful one though… Last year my SIL made a collage of all the doctor who characters and my family then turned it into a puzzle. It was perfect since I love both Doctor Who and puzzles.

One year for Christmas my sister created a family portrait of sorts as my gift. Using a shadow box frame, she painted the background to resemble a landscape and attached family member likenesses, even my dog, fashioned from polymer clay. I love it to pieces!
Since I’m the only one who really crafts I don’t often get handmade gifts. But, once when I was away for military service I did get a holiday care package full of baked goods from my mother-in-law that was just what the doctor prescribed.
My mom made me a quilt as a child and I gave it to my daughter when she was a toddler. I still love that quilt. :-)

My mom used to make all my clothes when I was a kid. Looking back…that was AWESOME! The fact that she took the time and ENERGY (she also worked full time) to do that for me, just because I asked her to make some outfits for me to wear to school. I didn’t want to be like everyone else and wear jeans all the time.
It was great. I try to make an outfit for my daughter every couple months…sometimes more, but sadly, sometimes less. I think I’ll make her something again this weekend.

The hand-made teddy bear my birth mother made for me before I was born. Even though she knew she couldn’t keep me, she wanted me to know I was loved. I call him Brownie, and have kept him next to my bed for 46 years.
A Rosewood jewelry box from my (then boyfriend) hubby. It has roses and my name engraved in the top. Second place is a triple tie between 3 quilts, one from my grandparents, one from my mom, one from mom-in-law.
I was given the most beautiful hand made crocheted blanket from my Aunt for my baby girl’s baby shower a few months ago. My little girl loves it just as much as I do :)
The quilt my mother made the top for by appliqueing butterflies of various patterns of fabric she had embroidered around for each square. She did this while in her 80’s. It is precious to me.

My grandmother knitted me a Prayer Shawl when I went in for some fairly serious surgery. It was with me the entire time, and I woke up wrapped up in it. I still have it and have cuddled two babies in it and still bring it out for sick or chilly days.

My favorite hand made gift is a quilt made by my great grandmother. It is a simple block and hand tied and I cherish it!
I’ve received many handmade goodies, some very cute, but my favorite was my daughters first “gift” to me. I don’t have it anymore but I will never forget. She made me a “pen” holder out of the top of a shoe box. She even had Daddy help wrap it and was so proud of the marker decorations… So cute at 3!
A friend made a beautiful quilt for our family when my third baby was born.
My sweet friend made my daughter a Jessie from Toy Story costume. It was hands down the most amazing handmade thing I have ever seen.
My grandma is an amazing quilter, she does everything by hand. Her work is absolutely gorgeous! I have 4 kids, on each of their 1st birthdays she has sent a quilt with their names on them. They’re so beautiful and so special, I know they’ll be treasured forever.

My great aunt knitted me a stuffed cricket when I was about 10 years old. I loved it!! It was almost 4 feet long and had 6 toes on one hand! LOL It’s hard to explain, but yes, a knitted cricket DOES have hands AND toes!! Haha!
My most treasured handmade gift is a quilt with pictures of my ancestors. It hangs in my living room and becomes a source for many stories. Love it!

My favorite handmade item is my childhood blanket. My grandmother made it and it was a permanent fixture with me at all times. I still have it in my linen closet.
My favorite handmade gifts are the blankets my mom has knitted. I have one super soft afghan that always makes me feel better when I’m sick. I even took it with me in the hospital when my son was born, it’s an instant soother. She has made a few for him too – he’s not 2 yet, so I’m not sure he understands that she made them, but he’s always carrying them around! Doesn’t care about the other blankies we have for him :)
I received a homemade set of Barbie doll clothes that my grandmother made when I was little and my daughter then also used.

My favorite handmade item I have received is a tinkerbell costume my mother in law made for my oldest daughter. She passed away 2 years after. We cherish the costume since it reminds of her and her amazing sewing abilities. I hope I can be half as good of a seamstress as she was.

What is your favorite handmade gift you ever received? My Aunt Sharon crochet me a doll when my brother was christened. She recently passed away and I tok the doll out and gave it to my children. They call her Baby Sharon and are very gentle with her.

My favorite handmade gift as a little girl was the knitted snow suit my mom knitted for my tiny tears doll using size 2 knitting needles. It was a cap, sweater, cardigan, and leggings. I still have the knitted clothes and doll. My Grandmother made baby doll clothes for my 22′ doll one year and for Tammy and Skipper another year. She sewed complete wardrobes using Simplicity patterns. My dad made a doll cradle for my favorite baby doll. We did handmade many years growing up.

The best handmade gift was my wedding dress, train & veil sewn by my amazing sister in law, who had 3 little ones under foot, yet whipped it out like nothing. It was gorgeous and hand beaded. Sacrifice! So honored almost 19 yrs ago.
When I got married my mom gave me a beautiful lacy thread crocheted bedspread that my grandma had made years ago and my mom had stashed away :) It’s just beautiful and reminds me of my amazing family, especially my grandma, every time I see it.

My Aunt always made the best flannel nightgowns when I was growing up and when I had my own children she made them pjs every Christmas when they were younger to match. They wore them every Xmas eve to sleep in and wake up to Santa in.

We own a café and a few weeks ago out of the blue one of our customers brought us a knitted lap blanket with our logo and name on it, exactly (EXACTLY) as it appears on our menu, business cards, etc.
As a tradition, my grandmother made an afghan for each grandkid when they graduated from high school. I was more excited about receiving my blanket than I was about that momentous occasion in my life! Now she’s gone and it’s my most treasured possession. And now I make afghans for my family members when they graduate high school.

My absolute favourite is the teacup and saucer my daughter Ella made for me at a Ceramic Course this year. She decorated it so beautifully. Love it!

My favorite was a bear made from my grandmother’s dress after she passed away. It was a dress that she more on many occasions over the years, was not the prettiest dress, but one she liked wearing. It made for the most beautiful bear that I have on my dresser, that I see each night before I go to bed, and every morning when I wake.

My Mom made all my dresses growing up. Including all my Prom dresses and even my Wedding dress! My dresses were all my favorites because I got exactly what I wanted AND they fit properly.

my favorite handmade gift I ever received is a beautiful vase in the shape of a cala lilly my friend gave me one day – filled with beautiful flowers, of course! She was bringing it just to cheer me up. Now every time I use that vase, which is often, I think of her and the talent God blessed her with.

I haven’t received too many handmade gifts, but there was one that my son received last year that was so nice. My mother is a nurse and has had this same patient a few times over the years. Well, this woman has never met my son, but was so kind and made him a throw size quilt. It really warmed my heart. She and my mother would always talk about their families and she makes these quilts for her loved ones and strangers. It is red with a vintage cowboy print on it. I will treasure that quilt always and the kindness of strangers. :)

As someone mentioned above, I don’t receive too many handmade gifts because people know I can make things myself. I can think of several gifts that were very special to me, though — some thick knitted slipper socks made by a dear friend; a lovely fabric roll for my crochet hooks made by one of my daughters, and a special shortbread sampler of shortbread baked and arranged by a faraway daughter, lovingly packed and mailed.
My sister once made me an entire set of homeade natural household cleaners in cool bottles, and put it in a gift basket with cloth shopping bags. Best gift ever!!!!

The best handmade gifts I ever received were two baby quilts at my oldest son’s baby shower, from my grandma’s best friend. I was then able to use them for the next two sons and well.
My favorite handmade gift was an embroidered pillowcase made by my grandmother. She had been bitten by a rattlesnake some years before and had nearly lost her right hand, so she had to learn to use her left hand for more things. I know it was a trial for her to embroider the pillowcase. Her enthusiasm and grit gave me an overwhelming desire to learn embroidery. She taught me very patiently and I made her a pillowcase in return. I was 8 years old and have been embroidering ever since. I have arthritis and carpel tunnel, but still find time to embroider. She is gone now, but her legacy remains.

My mom made me a pillow out of one of my dads old shirts, pajamas I had outgrown, and a mouse that was off of one of my sisters sweatshirts. I have 3 pieces of my past sewn into that pillow and a lot of great memories. I still have it 33 years later! Now my kids use it!

She usually sold her quilts, so I assumed that is what she had done with this particular one. Years later, she gave the quilt to me as a graduation gift. I have cherished it ever since!

My grandmother knit me a sweater when I was a young child and I loved that. Now that I think of it, I should find out if my mom still has it so I can give it to my daughter when she’s bigger.
Also, now that I have kids everything they make for me is one of the best handmade gifts I’ve ever received. I never thought I could fall so completely in love with a crayon scribbled hand turkey.
My grandmother gave me a handmade quilt and bumper pads for my first born and it had a tag that said she made it with love. I used that set for all three of my children. It was a very loved gift.
