Today we’re making Anthro Gift Tags – alternately known as the Easiest. Knockoff. Ever. :)
These probably don’t even need a tutorial – but I’m writing one anyway. Cause I like them so much.
Here’s my version:
Here are the Anthro tags:
Cute right? I love how fast these are – I think I made them up in about 20 minutes.
Plus, they can be used for more than Christmas – they are perfect for any gift!
Here’s the quick and easy tutorial. :)
You’ll need:
cardstock (1 sheet makes 8 tags)
red thread
blue thread
cording for ties
Pattern for tags – click here to open PDF
(As always with my PDF’s – don’t sell or redistribute these images. Thanks!)
Start by printing out the tags. If you have letter stamps, you could also just make your own!
Cut out the tags. To get those rough edges like the Anthro tags. scrape the edges of the tags with your fingernail.
This will give it that almost “torn” look.
Sew three lines of blue stitching across the horizontal length of the tag. Start just under the lettering.
Sew a vertical red line of stitching to the right of the lettering.
Punch a hole in the top left of the card and add your twine. I used 12″ of red/white Baker’s Twine, looped through the hole.
And Voila! You’re done and ready to start wrapping!!
You could even write a little note on these along with the name – “Merry Christmas” or “You are Awesome” or “This is totally a re-gift. Hope you like it better than I did”. :)
I looooove them. What about you? Do you make your own tags or wrapping?
I’m linking to Sunday Scoop, Today’s Creative Blog, Met Monday, Skip to my Lou, Tutorials & Tips Tuesday, Funky Junk Interiors, and the other fabulous parties on the sidebar – make sure you check them out!
Love these! I think that I like your version better than the original :)

They are a perfect knockoff! And so cute. Definitely doing this.
LOVE! Love, love, love. Can’t say it enough. LOVE! Yet ANOTHER reason I NEED.to learn. TO SEW!! Pinning and Stumbling!
Great! I’m doing this asap! Thanks for sharing.
So cute! Pinning them now for Christmas!
Love these!
super cute! great job with the knockoff on these tags!
gail
nope, don’t make my own! :)
Bev, they look fantastic! And I can’t believe how easy they are to make!! I’m going to make bunch of them, maybe in different colours…(already thinking about who to give them to).
How cute, thanks so much for the tutorial.
Super cute. These are awesome.
I know it’s not like the original but, if you have special stitches on your machine you could almost stitch a tiny motif in the corner like a snowflake or something too.
Thank you Bev.
Love that you were able to create your version of the Anthro tags. The tags are definitely great.
love how they turned out bev!! and definitely easy enough :)
I like your version better… great job!
SuperCute! I love these and am totally going to make some. Thanks for sharing.

Just bookmarked theses on the Anthropologie site this morning to make and then I ran across yours on Michele’s Pinterest! LOVE it!!! I also like yours better, I think the baker’s twine gives it a little something extra!
These are phenomenal! I do like them better than the original!
These are so cute!
Love it Bev! Super easy to whip up!!
Absolutely LOVE your knockoff! I’m saving the PDF, pinning the tute and hoping I’ll get around to making some in time for Christmas! :D
I also think your tags are even better. And I enjoyed the “regifting” message. I would so laugh if I actually received a gift with a tag that honest!
These are cute!
We usually make our own tags… but they aren’t anywhere as cute as these. Several years ago I got a hold of some light green 1″ x 3″ labels… I’ve been sticking those to the pkgs with a hand written to and from on them. LOL
I love these! I am definitely going to make some!! Thanks for the tutorial!
Oh yah, these rock! Just pinned it ;)
L
Love these! Sometimes the simplest things are really the best!
These look great. Now you’ve got me thinking of making gift tags.
A nail file or emery board along the edges might also give you that torn look. My fingernails are never long enough to rough up anything.
Thank you!
Awesome Tip Gertie!! Thanks!
Oh my gosh! TOO ADORABLE! You did a fantastic job on these, and thank you so much for the tutorial!
I’d love for you to link up to my Fresh Friday Link party!

Those are so cute! I didn’t see the sewn gift tags at Anthro; I must have missed them. Back in September I saw the gift card version and imitated that:D You can check out my post about it if you would like: http://odetoinspiration.wordpress.com/2011/09/06/anthropologie-inspired-project/
Pinning your version! Thanks for sharing:)
I have to wait and do the sewing part for when i get my new sewing machine. for some reason my janome mini can’t handle sewing on card stock. anyway, i was going to mention that while trying to make the edges look torn, i found that it is much faster and easier to do it with scissors, scrape them along with scissors, instead of my nails. then again i don’t really have nails so maybe that’s why.
a very creative idea!
I linked to your tutorial on my blog – thanks for sharing!

I like yours WAY better!! So awesome! Thanks for sharing!!
I just came across this after seeing a sketch I had made back in 2011 while walking through Anthropologie so I could diy these. (which of course, I did not do back then and promptly misplaced the sketch) Did you adjust the stitch length to longer than “normal” when sewing the lines? I am thinking if I do this craft in the summer instead of waiting till the holidays when things are so busy it might actually get done. It’s a classic look so I’m sure my gift recipients won’t look at the tags and say “that’s so 2011” ;-) Also, did you use any specific kind of thread or just regular cotton thread?
Hi Alice,
I did use a little longer stitch length – a small one tends to almost perforate the paper and makes it so it tears easily. I just used regular sewing thread for it. Thanks!
