Today I’ve got a two part tutorial for you!
I’m always up for new summer bags – and I’m all about pineapples this summer! I’ve made up a new summer tote all made with bright summer colors and pineapples. It’s perfect for heading to the pool or even the beach. The tutorial for my cute new summer bag is over at Lil’ Luna today!
I thought I’d go into more detail on part of the tutorial – putting in the plastic Grommets! These are great for more than just curtains – they work great for lightweight bags and more. I used them in my Cell Phone Holder too!
These curtain grommets come in different sizes but this tutorial works for any size grommet.
The grommet package comes with a pattern. You’ll also need a marking pen, ruler and scissors.
Find the spot for your grommet and measure from the side and top. You want to have the grommets in the same place on each side and on the back. Make sure you have the center point far enough down that the top of your grommet isn’t too close to the top of the bag.
Trace the circle on the pattern with your marking pen.
Cut the circle out through both the outer fabric and the lining with your scissors.
The plastic grommet has two pieces, a top and bottom piece. You’ll need one of each for each hole you cut.
Place the bottom piece of the grommet at the bottom of the hole, so the fabric sits just around the ring. The bottom piece of the grommet is the one without the little spikes.
Place the top piece over the bottom piece and line up the circles. Press down firmly on the top piece and the grommet will snap into place – holding the fabric in place.
Repeat with any other grommets you need to put in. If you’re making a bag, the front and back grommets should line up.
And that’s it! So easy right? You’ll want to put grommets in everything now! :)
Oh – and just a tip – these grommets can’t take tons of weight. So I don’t recommend you filling your new bag with a bunch of books or anything really heavy.
Don’t forget to head over to Lil Luna to check out the whole tutorial!

Wow! In all honesty, I have not even considered doing any projects with Grommets because I really thought you had to have special tools and that they would be extremely difficult. So thank you so much for sharing this great tutorial and opening my eyes! I have to go and purchase some and choose which tote to make first!
