This week in the Sewcialites 3 Sew Along we’re making the sweet Cabin Life block, designed by the always-inspiring Robin Pickens. I love Robin’s designs and this block is such a fun take on a classic log cabin style layout!

The block has that traditional log cabin feel, but the little “roof” shape at the top gives it such a charming cottage vibe. It really does look like a cozy little house tucked into a quilt.

For my version I’m continuing to sew along with my upcoming Correspondence fabric collection, and I love how the florals and soft prints play with the patchwork layout. Log cabin blocks are always a favorite for showing off lots of different prints, and the mix of florals, letters, and soft coordinating prints in this collection makes the block feel fresh and cheerful.

One of my favorite things about this design is how the logs frame the center print. It’s a great way to highlight a favorite fabric, and it adds such a fun layered look to the block.

If you’re sewing along too, this block comes together quickly and is such a satisfying make. I can’t wait to see everyone’s versions!
You can download the Cabin Life block pattern from Fat Quarter Shop, and be sure to join the conversation in the Sewcialites Facebook Group to share your blocks and see what everyone else is making.

Happy sewing!
